My girlfriend took me to Kauai in May. She told me that it was the most beautiful, romantic place she had ever visited and she was right. Lovely beaches, majestic mountains, great surf, fresh fish, and a photographers paradise (me:)). Dawn had travelled to Kauai numerous times and even lived there for 2 years...the abundant beauty of the island was known to her. What suprised us both however was our accomadation at the Kauai Country Inn. Nestled on two acres in the foothills above Kapaa on the islands east side was this oasis. Having never visted this neck of the woods Dawn (and I) took a punt and booked a room here...more acurately we booked a large beautiful suite complete with a full kitchen and lanai for less than the price of a standard room with a view of the parking lot at the Marriott during low season. Our stay was serene, romantic, private and luxurious...a perfect tonic from our busy lives here on the mainland. Do yourself a favor and come here - you won't regret it!!

We just returned from our stay on Kauai, and we have to say, this place was fabulous! There are only 4 suites there, making it very tranquil and quiet. The Inn is tucked away in the valley, away from the more touristy and busy hotels. It is a very quick drive into town and to the beach, though, making it an ideal, peaceful location. We stayed at a different hotel, right on the beach, before we stayed here, and we much preferred the Kauai Country Inn. We had our own kitchen, computer with high speed internet access, and private lanai with gas BBQ. They have kayaks for rent on site; they also have boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, and other beach accessories for use (for free!) by guests. The owners of the Inn, Mike and Martina, were very helpful, giving us great advice and recommendations for things to do, places to eat, etc. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel like we were their friends, rather than just more customers. They are very thoughtful in what they provide for their guests, going beyond what you would expect (including a cooler for use on the beach!). If you are looking for a very reasonably-priced, peaceful place to spend your vacation with great amenities and incredible hosts, this is the place for you. We plan to return to Kauai, and, when we do, we will definitely stay at the Kauai Country Inn!

My husband and I recently returned to our favorite Hawaiian island, Kauai. We are adventurous travelers and always find our home-away-from-home while on a vacation off the beaten path as opposed to in a resort hotel. We found the Kauai Country Inn on our first visit to Kauai and because of its easy-going nature booked it again for our second trip. It is centrally located, easy to find, quiet, and comfortable. We both love to cook and find ourselves stopping daily at fish and farmers markets on the island. The Green Rose Suite has a remarkable kitchen with a gas grill on the lanai--perfect for fresh-caught mahi-mahi and stir-fried baby bok choy. The king bed faces a wall of windows illuminated by the sunrise each morning. Having access to a computer in the suite helps immensely with my consulting business while on the road. This is really an exceptional amenity. I highly recommend this inn to travelers wanting a place that feels like home--who like being away from the crowds, having access to a kitchen; can rent a movie or a kayak from the innkeepers or grab a book on the porch and be left alone. We are looking forward to staying at the inn again next summer!

We stayed at the Kauai Country Inn for 6 nights in late May. We stayed in the Orchid Suite which has a bedroom and a separate kitchen/living room area. The suite is very well decorated and everything is new and clean. We especially appreciated having acess to a computer and the internet. The bed is VERY comfortable and we slept well every night.
The only negative is that the Inn is a bit of a drive from Kapaa. On the days we were touring the island we found the drive up to the Inn from the main road to be tiring however when we stayed in the area it wasn't too bad. We never ventured out in the evenings, choosing to do everything before returning to the Inn to avoid the drive back to town. We would stay there again because it was so comfortable. The Inn is near our favorite hike on the island: the Sleeping Giant-east trail. We loved Kauai and hope to return soon!

Aloha! We wanted to let everyone know that we had a wonderful time at the Kauai Country Inn while celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary. Martina & Mike Hough are friendly and generous hosts, and helped us plan our vacation around four of their wonderful accommodations (Green Rose Suite, Orchid Suite, Plumeria Suite, Country Cottage).

The Kauai Country Inn is conveniently located just up the road from the Wailua River and the Opaeka’a Falls. Its central location on the Coconut Coast of Wailua and Kapa’a makes exploring the island a tropical breeze. Most first time visitors to the islands usually stay at the hefty-priced big hotels or condominiums, but the Kauai Country Inn will really give you an idea of what living in Hawaii is like. We’ve visited and even lived in Hawaii many times over the years while working on our travelogues, and this is one of the best inns we’ve ever stayed at! From cleanliness to room presentation…from kitchen facilities to computer & internet accessibility…from beach gear to their amazing movie collection, Martina & Mike run a top-notch operation. They’re two of the most intelligent and helpful people you’ll ever meet. This might be the best value on Kauai…so run, don’t walk, to the Kauai Country Inn!

Mahalo nui loa and we look forward to visiting the beautiful Garden Isle of Kauai again soon!

We just spent our honeymoon at the Kauai Country Inn. Mike and Martina made us feel right at home with their hospitality, friendliness, and comfort. The Inn is perfectly situated in Kapaa, which is centrally located on the Island. Waking up with a view of Mt. Wai'ale'ale is a blessing! The Hough's knowledge of activities and restaurants around the island proved invaluable to us mainlanders. The Orchid suite was perfect for the two of us. It provided a kitchenette with enough amenities to allow us to cook a meal when we were tired of eating out. The private patio and barbecue was a nice spot to enjoy a quiet dinner. The Inn is immaculately decorated, with enough personality and charm to make us feel as if we're spending the night at a best friend's house. We highly recommend the Kauai Country Inn!

The location of the Inn was one of the pluses for us in choosing lodging on Kauai. That it's not right on the beach gave us the chance to experience more than just the shoreline of the amazing island. We knew we were going to be spending a lot of the daytime on or near the ocean, so having a mountain experience to go "home" to was getting the best of both worlds. The Yellow Ginger suite was comfortable and deliciously roomy for two. Having a kitchenette was key for us - it gave us the option of cooking for ourselves. It was well suited for breakfasts (fruit from the Inn's trees is a great treat), putting together a picnic for the day or making a simple evening meal. From the main living area, the view across the treetops to the mountains beyond was captivating. We woke early each morning to the many birds calling to each other, but it was never so much that we couldn't easily fall back into a few more hours of slumber. Martina and Mike are thoughtful, attentive hosts. They gave us just the right amount of attention - not too much, not too little. They have gathered together a great collection of beach gear for their guests to borrow - towels, chairs, bamboo mats, snorkel gear, boogie boards, coolers... What a nice amenity to have so many of the standard beach needs provided. The Beatles Museum is fascinating; it's well worth the time to see. Mike provides a knowlegable and interesting narrative as he tells the stories behind the collection.
