Although there are a lot of people who attend on any given night, the Smith family make each and everyone of their guests feel like their home with their own family. From the tram ride around the grounds to the walk out after the show, you never feel forgotten. Learning about tradition and all the different areas they consider part of their heritage is an informative time. As for the food...WOW!!!!! Try everything. The Kahlua pig is absolutely incredible. There are many different types of salads, potatoes, rice, breads and other meats to enjoy. Dessert is great and you can't forget the Mai Tai. The show after dinner (being our first luau) was a great experience. We could've sat there all night watching everything. If you want a true Hawaiian luau, go to see the Smith's.

Dinner in the pavilion felt like you were a guest at a strangers wedding. Called up by table to one of the 6 buffet lines. Tip, do not sit in center of pavilion..will be last to buffet line to eat. Mai tai's tasted virgin..had no rum. Buffet spread had the usual...salad, dressings, rice, macaroni, chicken, fish, teriyaki and if course kalua pork. After dinner show was much more better and entertaining. I've been to a few luaus since visiting Kauai, and took the recommendation of this place...not that great a choice. Eat locally and stop by smiths for show only.

This was our first luau and Smiths was highly recommended on Tripadvisor and by friends/family. They did not disappoint! The property is a garden setting which they provide a tram car tour when you first arrive. Your guide points out and explains the different varieties of plants and the island history. After the tour you are allowed to stroll the garden on foot until dinner. The dinner includes a roasted pig which they describe and demonstrate the cooking method as they uncover the pig from the sand where it was cooked for many hours that day. A Hawaiian ceremony is performed as they bring out the pig. They really do a great job explaining the Hawaiian culture that is connected to the luau experience.

We read various reviews of other luaus where the food was not highly rated but were pleased with the variety and quality of the buffet style at Smith's. It was all you can eat with an open bar so there's no excuse to walk away hungry!

About an hour after the meal the show starts in an amphitheater setting so all can see the stage. The show is very entertaining with Hawaiian and other ethnic dancing that has influenced the culture, ending with the ever popular fire twirling/dancer.

Highly recommended!

The Smith's Tropical Paradise Lu'au was wonderful. The location is great with a number of plants and animals to see as you wait for things to get started. The history that is told as the men were getting ready to dig out the pig added to the event. My daughter loved the Teriyaki chicken but I thought the pork was wonderful. It was the best meal I ate on the island and we had several good meals. The "family" was very friendly and took the time to check to be sure our needs were being meant. They had an open bar of both non alcoholic and alcohol drinks. The Lu'au was good and interesting to hear the history but the pork was out of this world!

I am a hula student on the mainland. I was interested in watching a hula show on island. Asked the locals where to find the 'most authentic' hula show, and they sent me to Smith's. I took a Wailua River Boat tour first, then after, you head over to the Smith's Tropical Garden for a tram tour of the gardens. I highly recommend the luau and hula show. The luau...all you can eat, and great selection of Hawaiian foods with some more common dishes too. All you can drink Mai Tai cocktails!! Dinner entertainment even before you get to the hula show part! I did enjoy the show, and it was interesting to see the different styles of dancing.
