On our recent week long trip to Kauai, we were able to construct a number of adventures. One of the most relaxing, and fun was riding along the fairly new bike path on the East side of Kauai. The trip started at Hele On Kauai Bike Rentals which is located in the town of Kapaa.. We were greeted by a very friendly Frannie, who also happens to own the place. She provided us well maintained beach cruisers (for the four of us), directions to the beginning of the bike path (less than a block behind her store), and told us what we might expect. While we didn't need it, we noticed she also provides a ready stock of complimentary sunscreen lotions for those unprepared, which is a nice touch. Take note that the preferred method of payment is plastic. Frannie indicated that and afternoon 1 mile trip to the bank can often take 40 minutes due to traffic, so she rather accepts debit or credit cards. The bikes performed well, the cost was wonderfully low ($5/bike/hour during our visit!), and the ride was perfect. We were fortunate to see some whales passing by during our ride, and within an easy hour had covered the track of the entire path. It was a great mini-adventure and was nicely facilitated by Frannie and her stock of two-wheeled conveyances.
