Plantation Hale Suites
Ranked #8 of 11 Hotels in Kapaa
Reviewed September 1, 2010

We stayed Aug 25 - 29 and enjoyed our stay. What is really nice about this hotel is that there is a living room, bedroom and full kitchen. Having a kitchen with all the utensils allowed us to make meals and save a lot of money. The room was clean and parking was easy. The only downside is the getting onto the Kuhio hwy (basically the only main road on Kauai) can be a bit of a challenge because of the traffic. This was our second stay at the Plantation Hale and will be staying there again. Also, Kapaa is right between Princeville and Lihue. Internet is available in the lobby.

I would look elsewhere before booking this hotel. The condo unit was old and stuffy, with mildew growing in it. Found a dead roach next to the bed. The furniture is really old and uncomfortable. The A/C unit is louder than a rock concert. The hotel is not on the water and does not have ocean view rooms like they advertise. The front desk staff was ok, not much going on with concierge services. They do not have a bar, restaurant, or any other services. You have to go to the resort next door to get that. I been to other Best Westerns that were in much better shape. Only good thing is its location, lots a shopping and dining near by. Would not recommend. Look for other resorts in Kapaa.

Fortunately this review is not representative of the Best Western Plantation Hale Suites. Each unit has it's own air cleaner to keep the air fresh despite the tropical climate. The property sits about 200 yards from the ocean with only an open field between so there are a number of scenic view rooms available. If we are made aware of any issues during a guest stay, we will do everything possible to rectify the situation whether it be a noisy air conditioner or a dead roach.

I have stayed here a total of 4 times in the last 15 years. This isn't a resort, or luxury hotel by any means. However it is a great value for Kauai. Situated in Kapaa, which is centrally located on the island, there is plenty of dining and shopping options near by. This is a good starting location for any day trips on the island.
The hotel itself has a friendly staff and good maid service. There is a full kitchen with utensils, pots/pans and so on. The decor and amenities are out of date, and slightly cheap, however if you are looking to save a dime, this is the place to stay. The surrounding properties command at least twice as much per night. There is a beach about 100yds away, however in general the Kapaa beaches are not the best.

My wife and I were looking for reasonably priced accomodations for our stay on Kauai and found the Best Western Plantation Hale. I booked the AAA rate about 3 months in advance and got a rate of $84 per night (we stayed 5/28-6/1).

Some reviews were not so favorable and that had me a little concerned, but upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised. Check-in was easy (the front desk staff was very nice and helpful), the room was a nice size, with a separate living room, bedroom and kitchen and it was all very clean (we had a corner room with a nice view of the ocean). The kitchen had plenty of dishes, cookware and utensils to help in cooking which we took advantage of.

The location was great. Waimea Canyon was 90 minutes one direction and the Napali Coast was 90 minutes the other direction. There were quite a few stores and restaurants within walking distance or a very short drive. The one odd thing about the hotel is that some of the places are actually condos, but that didn't seem to make any difference. Overall, it was the perfect place for us. We did not need a resort and did not want to pay what you would for a resort, so the Best Western was a good choice.

You could look high and far for a better place at this price and you wouldn't find it. Nice large rooms - decently outfitted kitchen- had everything we needed - Decent beds- 2 doubles - I'm 6'5 and weigh 300 pounds and I can't complain about the beds - ya they could have been better but I could have stayed at the marriot for 5 times the price too. The living room is spacious and the furniture is nice - There is an LCD TV in the living room and an older style in the bedroom. Internet hookup (Bring ethernet cable). The beach is a 1 minute walk away. A rocky beach, nice to walk and wade but not great for swimming. The hotel is very nicely located - Kinda in the middle of everything. Coconut marketplace is right next door, there are some empty stores but there are still plenty of stores to browse. And a great shaved ice and seafood grill. A short walk the other was is Safeway and a little shopping area. All in all it is well worth the price.

I am reviewing F-16 which is privately owned. The unit was dirty (flooring in particular). The tub was weak and worn out and very dirty. The mattress was very old and felt like it sunk to the floor. The furniture looked like it was purchased at a garage sale. I would have been happy to pay more for a better place. There was no soap, worn/torn towels, one washcloth for a stay of 5 nights.

As this guest stated, the unit is privately owned as are all units at Plantation Hale. However this particular unit is also privately managed and is not part of the Best Western rental pool. The review review does not reflect the quality of the Best Western Plantation Hale Suites and should not even be posted under the property name.

there is little spectacular about this older hotel/condo conversion. It does offer acceptable rooms and amenities. we were there on shell vacation club price deal 380 dollars for the week. that turned out to be just about what we would value it at anyway. They are in the process of updating the rooms (we had the newer room level. I wouldn't even want to see what the old rooms look like) simple basic hotel/1 bedroom lodging. for the right price it's worth it. For any higher pricing you can easily find much nicer newer resorts to stay at. The poor coconut marketplace across the parking lot is 60-70 percent vacant. It's like a ghost town walking around there. very sad.
