“Great base place”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We arrived very late at night as our flight from the mainland was delayed. However, the night security person gave us the keys and we were in the room quickly. We mainly used the property as our island home base, as its location in Kapaa is so central to the rest of the island. We'd come back at the end of each day to make our dinner and go to sleep. Having said that, the room was comfortable, roomy, clean and met our needs very well. One evening we went into the hot tub and enjoyed that very much as well. The wifi worked well each evening and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds of any hotel that we've ever stayed at.
Plantation Hale not only met our expectations, but exceeded them and we would recommend it to visitors wanting good, basic amenities in a great location.

I arrived at the island with my wife and kids and went directly to the hotel. The check in process was extremely efficient. We really didn't spend much time in the hotel as we really wanted to experience the beach and the area, It was our first time in Hawaii and we really wanted to make it count. Our room was very spacious, they have 3 pools and my kids love it. The staff was courteous and friendly and we were even able to get a DVD from the front desk for the little one. We did not order anything from room service because we were out and about most of the time, but there were plenty of eating places around. This hotel is very family friendly and I will recommend it to all my friends and family.

We arrived in Kauai at about 9:30 am with two kids (6 & 7). A little tired because we had an early flight out of Honolulu, but in good spirits and excited about spending a week in Kauai (an amazing island by the way). When we arrived at the hotel, we were not expecting a room to be ready, of course, and the awkwardly friendly guy at the checkin counter reminded us that there is no early check in, but promised to do his best to get us a room considering the kids and all. No problem. We'll hang out at the beach and they will call us as soon as a room is ready. A few hours go by... we have lunch at the beach... it's now 1:00 pm. We go back to the front desk... and ask if we can have access to the pool and borrow some towels... as the kids are getting a bit restless (and if by any chance our room is ready?). No room... but keys to the pool. We hang out at the pool, which is okay... but tiny, no bathrooms in the pool area, so even a pee would translate into a 10 minute walk. At 2:55 pm (no joke), I go back to the front desk to see if we can have our room and our awkward little friend tells me he can't give me keys or access to the room until check in time - 3:00 pm!!!! When I asked if he was kidding, he said no. I walked away saying nothing else... literally came back 4 minutes later and he gave me the keys as if I had never been there before. Insane!!

Anyhow, a sour note, but not a big deal. The hotel itself: comfortable, but old and in massive need of some updating. There are also no facilities. Really none. A terrible place if you're traveling with kids. Having said that, we never really stayed in the hotel... we were always out and about... so not a big deal, except: across the street is an amazing resort like hotel (Kauai Coast Resort At the Beachboy) with restaurant, amazing grounds, gardens, beach front, more modern facilities, multiple pools and waterfalls and etc... and it was CHEAPER!!! We tried to switch, but, of course, they would not refund us a penny.

Anyhow, we had an AMAZING time in Kauai. The hotel was fair, nothing great, and not horrible, but the people at the front desk left little to be desired, and the facilities could use some serious TLC. Again, what really chapped my bottom was the fact that we could have stayed in a much nicer place across the street for less money.

One final note... the place across the street was a time share... so be warned... they will probably try to get you into some some of presentation at every turn.

Room Tip: Try to stay as far from the main road behind the hotel as possible... which also enjoy the pleasant...

Aloha HNTG. I do apologize. In reviewing your reservation you were not booked in a unit managed by Plantation Hale Suites, it was a VRBO Rental. We have no contol as far as access or services
for individual owner units. Being the day after New Years I am sure there units were full. The delay was we were trying without any luck to find out if the unit you rented was cleaned. We have strict instructions not to allow any check ins before 3 PM. Since we could not reach the property manager we wanted to be sure the unit was ready. We have great ratings with families with three pools and spas. Four BBQ areas and a huge DVD LIBRARY. The restrooms are within 50 feet of pool one. Plantation Hale Suites just completed a one million dollar renovation and have 60 new suites. We do hope you will return and book directly with Plantation Hale Suites. We would certainly have refunded a major portion of your money based on our cancel policy had you not been happy. I know the VRBO's will not do that. I agree with you the Hukilau is a terrific restaurant. Aloha.

We just returned from a wonderful holiday in Kauai. As with many others, we wanted to enjoy a special holiday but with a budget in mind. We booked a package deal on Expedia that included air/car/hotel. We were nothing short of pleased with our selection of this property, located at the midpoint between the more popular south (Poi'pu) and north (Hanalea) sides of the island. We were greeted at registration by the general manager who offered us a newly refurbished suite (he had just returned from hanging new art work) and a gift pack of Kauai Coffee Company coffees. Our second floor suite was on the highway side of the building but that was of little concern since we were out during the day. The suite came with two double beds (for our two daughters) while we slept on the brand new sofa bed in the living room. Two flat screen TVs and blue ray DVD (and free rentals at the front desk.) The kitchen had all we needed for breakfast in the morning. The property has three pools of which never had more than four people in them. The hotel staff was very friendly, Noe and Priscilla in particular. Tiffany was a great help at the consierge desk to help with attraction reservations. The beach is a five-minute walk across an open field. A shopping center next door includes several shops and eateries. Our favorite was the Fish Hut for fish tacos and shave ice. Since there is so much more of the world to see, we will probably not return to Kauai, however, we would certainly stay at the Plantation Hale again and encourage you to strongly consider it for your holiday.

We loved staying at the Plantation Hale on Kauai. The rooms were nice with 2 double beds and a hide-a-bed in the living room. We loved the quiet atmosphere and the beach being just a little ways away. Plantation Hale was a great starting point for all the sights we saw and easy to get to. The people there were so very friendly and helpful. They provided for all our needs from a few missing items in the kitchen to telling us where our family member was getting married! We would definitely stay there again! We loved it!

I had the opportunity to stay in a newly renovated room! The decorations were tasteful - nice and simple and complimented the roomy suite. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, I had several restful nights sleep. The location is convenient, the staff friendly and helpful.
