“Good Gear - Misleading Ad”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

We rented snorkel gear from Snorkel Bob's. The gear was good. I had a problem with my first snorkel - the clearing valve was letting water in - so we went back and had it replaced after which snorkeling was more fun. But their ad is a bit misleading. You come in expecting to pay $20 for snorkel gear for a week, and they offer you a dive mask from the 1950s for that price. Expect to pay $50-$60 for a full set of decent gear for a week.

“Nice rentals for snorkeling”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Simple store with lots of snorkeling rentals (and others). Worked out well for our short trips to different beaches. There are different pricing levels according to the type of snorkel you rent. We went with the medium level and they worked great for what we were doing. Would definitely use this company again.

“Bait and Switch!”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Bait and Switch! Advertised for one price for snorkel rentals to get you into the store. They don't tell you that the price was for substandard 1970's style snorkels that they later tell you no one would want. Slimy salesman techniques to rush you to rent the more expensive set. Left the store feeling conned. I don't mind paying more for quality, but what I don't appreciate is feeling manipulated by the guy at the Kapaa Snorkel Bob's store. I won't be returning here again. Compare prices and honesty with other snorkel places before entering.

“Snorkel Bob really does care”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

This review refers to the Snorkel Bob's near Koloa Town.

When we went in and said we wanted to rent two snorkel sets, a salesperson greeted us and explained how the snorkel pricing works. All the snorkels have a mechanism so you don't end up with a mouthful of ocean water if you make a mistake (or dive a little). The pricing is based on the quality of the face mask. They even have inserts for people who wear prescription glasses.

Once we picked the masks and fins, the salesperson gave us a map and told us where on the island the snorkeling is good at this time of the year. When we said we'd be going to Maui at the end of the week, she gave us a map of Maui, too and told us how to extend our rental (which we didn't have to do immediately) if we wanted to return the gear on Maui.

The map she gave us had some snorkeling tips which we found useful and informative. Plus, it had a short, easy to read explanation of how the home aquarium industry is hurting Hawaii's reef fish populations.

When we returned our gear, we saw a book for $25 by Snorkel Bob. Since we had just done a week long rental, the salesperson sold it to us for $5. The book has great photos as well as entertaining commentary. I recommend buying the book as well as going to Snorkel Bob for any snorkel gear rentals in Hawaii.

“Definitely recommend - Snorkel Bobs - Koloa (near Poipu)”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Went to Snorkel Bob's in Koloa (near Poipu) - super friendly. large choice of equipment. very knowledgeable of equipment. So much better that Fathom Five Dives (which is an absolute dump with bad equipment). rented from fathom five earlier in the week - fins ripped, snorkles leaked.

Don't make the same mistake we did - go to Snorkel Bobs from the start!
