“Eighty steps to the beach”
Reviewed February 5, 2017 for a stay in January 2017

Stayed at the Turtle House for 7 nights. From the minute we walked in we felt comfortable. There was only 2 of us but loved the room to stretch out. There is a full wrap-around the house deck that we sat on for hours watching the water. You can see the cruise boats coming by and all the walkers on the miles long walking path.
Everything has been kept up in the house. So many times we've stayed places and things are getting worn out. Not here. The furniture, appliances and most importantly the bed were top notch - the BBQ was brand new and we were the first to use it. We love to cook so having a decent kitchen and cookware are important to us.
Linda and Tom work very hard to make your vacation the best. They are available by phone or in person for anything you might need.
Yes, there are roosters and chickens; but that's part of the island. If they keep you awake, put in some earplugs. The garbage trucks do run on Thursday morning - our first morning there and they are loud - get over it. You can hear delivery trucks but I loved having the town of Kapaa right behind the house. I walked every morning on the walking path and then traveled back through the town on the way back to the Turtle House. I loved it. I walked the town over and over and bought little things along the way.
I would come back here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a house to stay that makes your life easy. Used the washer and dryer and like everything else, they work like they are supposed to - that was a treat.
Used the beach chairs and towels and sit on the beach that is 80 steps from the house.
Don't have a single negative thing to say. I hope I can come back!

“Kapa'a Visit”
Reviewed January 9, 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Tom and Linda Summers were gracious hosts. Property was perfect. Steps from ocean and six mile hike/bike path. Steps other direction to old Kspaa and Mermaid Cafe or Olympic Cafe. Our two adult sons and significants joined us plenty of room. Only problem Kauai ha a ton of feral chickens. Roosters crow at all hours. Tom claims it's not his fault.

Yes, feral chickens are a part of Kauai. We suggest guest who are sensitive to noise should invest in ear plugs. Even in the best of accommodations, you will see chickens. Guests find it difficult not to feed the baby chicks following after their devoted mother. It is human nature to want to feed them. Of course, they are the ones that grow up and become a nuisance and they continue to prolificate.

Cock-a-doodle-doo from Kauai

Thanks John and Peggy for your understanding.

“Home away from home”
Reviewed November 14, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Thanks to Linda and Tom, my husband and I had a terrific stay at Honu Hale Kai. The house is situated just off the beach and bike path and just off town, so walking anywhere in Kapa'a is super easy. And being in Kapa'a is about equidistant for driving to the North Shore or as far as Waimea Canyon. The house is well appointed with the essentials you'll need while in Hawaii - plenty of beach towels & chairs, a rice cooker and lanai seating. You can truly sit back and relax here...but bring ear plugs in hopes you'll sleep through the ever-present crowing roosters that Kauai is known for!

Thank you for your review Karen. We found the ear plugs left behind and it is true, we do have roosters. Even at the finest locations, these birds are everywhere. Ear plugs are a very good suggestion for those who are light sleepers. Thank you Karen. Most enjoy these wild chickens, but then they do tend to crow!!

Mahalo for your review.

“Turtle House at the Coconut Coast”
Reviewed June 9, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

The house was absolutely beautiful and location was perfect for our family. This house is located near the beach, just behind one house. Can see the ocean and beach from the lanai. The First Floor: Large living room (TV, 2-couches, XL table, Kitchenette (small frig), Sliding Screen Door to the outside, Two Rooms (two-twins & queen), and full bathroom.
The Second Floor: Large Master Bedroom, Large Master Bathroom (jetted tub, walk-in shower, & two sinks), living room (TV, DVDs, Books, Rocking Chair, Couch, Chair, Coffee Tables & Lamps), large Full-kitchen (Large Refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, crockpot, griddle, rice cooker, pots & pans, cookie sheets, utensils, bowls), kitchen table with seven wooden chairs, breakfast island, Stackable washer & dryer (dryer sheets and basic soaps from previous stays), screen door that goes out to the lanai (table and chairs to enjoy), Baby Gate at the top of stairs, Great Internet and Wifi.
Vacation Home Owners: Linda and Tom Summers are wonderful people to rent from. Both are very trustworthy and kind. Tom is famous on the island, locals call him "Uncle Tom" and is a casting movie director. They keep to themselves but will help when needed.
Town of Kapaa: The vacation home is located on a side street behind the main road of Kapaa. There is a bit of traffic at times but quiets down around 9:30. People park on the local street from bike rentals and eateries. Our adult kids really liked walking to Kapaa for shops, eateries, and local events. You can walk to the Ono Family Restaurant or Olympic Cafe or Ono Shaved Ice during the hot part of the day. To save money, we cooked big breakfasts and packed lunches. Our favorite was Bubba's Burgers when too tired to cook.
Whats Next Door? Pono Kai Resort is right up against the property on the westside, there is a lot for private parking. On the eastside is another lovely beach home; however insight is a abandon home. On the northside is a nice home, neighbor is odd but harmless. Southside is a beautiful home and office as well as the ocean.
Tips: It is nice to have beach chairs, cooler, boogie boards, and other beach fun to borrow from the vacation property. We cooked on the grill a couple of times and ate on the picnic table. The landscape is so beautiful with a hammock opportunity. The garbage truck arrives on Thursday mornings, seem to pick up each home over and over. The reviews warned us about this so it was no big deal to us. The beach looks intimidating, however, it was fun boogie boarding with the family. There were a couple of monk seals present. Our kids rented bikes (2 for $10 hour) by the house and had a good time with the greenbelt. A few people walked up and down enjoying the area. Make sure your personal property is secure and door is locked when leaving for the day and at night (common sense). It was nice that we choose the middle of the island to take advantage of Princeville and Poi Pu, actually we put on a lot of miles exploring. You will have a great time!

“Great location and house for family.”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Kapaa is a good location to venture out to see the whole island. This house was ideal for us with downstairs for the adult kids sleeping and their own sitting area and kitchenette and upstairs with great master bedroom suite, kitchen and family area. Only negative was poor dishwasher that didn't do a good job. Owners are really nice and helpful. House is close to sandy beach, walking path, Kapaa restaurants and shopping. All on foot. We also used the house gas grill and snorkel/boogie board beach gear often.
