“Kayak to secret falls”

This company is great because you can rent a kayak and go on your own. The guy that set us up was great, told us where to go, how to get there and gave us a map. The hike to the falls was beautiful and swimming in the pool below the falls was fantastic. The only problem was the paddle back against the wind, it was a doozer. We are experienced kayakers and this one was a killer, we may have had an unusually windy day

My wife and I highly recommend a journey with Wailua Kayak Adventures. Go on the 7:00 AM Secret Falls trip to avoid a kayak-crowded river and request Cole as your guide. We had a fantastic trip paddling then hiking to the Secret Falls. Our kayak was in excellent condition, PFDs and a sturdy walking staff was supplied. The trail was muddy, but we knew it was going to be muddy because we were informed by the office. The scenery is fantastic and our guide Cole had numerous historical facts and stories of Kauai's history and a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation for the river, forest, trails, birds, and animals that are encountered on the journey. This is a mellow paddle and hike with some good laughs, a little dried fruit and cookies, and led by a competent and friendly guide.

We have rented kayaks from these folks quite a few times over the past 15 years. They are always friendly and chatty, happy to help strap the kayaks on top of our car, and full of helpful advice on where to go. We do the Wailua River / Secret Falls kayak/hike (unguided) on every trip we take to Kauai, and have also kayaked several of the other streams nearby, as well as inside the reef at Anini Beach (we haven't ventured out into open ocean yet).

We haven't done a tour with them (we only do tours when there is no other option, as we prefer to explore on our own at our own pace) so I can't comment on that.

Make sure to reserve ahead of time, and bring cash for a nice discount.

First, I would highly recommend this excursion, but not with Wailua Kayak and Canoe. First, we had an issue with requesting singles vs. doubles - they did not give us singles. They guided part was terrible, they basically just showed us the way, they stopped a couple of times but did not wait for the entire group to hear their presentation. It was muddy on the day we did this, the trail was very slick and my wife bascially cam with flip-flops - ensure you pack some good hiking shoes that can handle the rough terrain. The highlight of the trip was the waterfall, a must do. So, the lesson learned is to request singles upfront, and second go with a different company.

Aloha, We just wanted to clarify that we are Wailua Kayak Adventures, NOT Wailua Kayak and Canoe. We are a completely different company although our names are similar. Look us up for a great trip next time you are on Kaua'i. Mahalo

Kayaking on our own was easy and saved the cost of the guide. But don't go if it's been raining as the trail is extremely muddy and slippery and it's not worth the walk to the so-so falls.
