“A good breakfast place”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

A fun little cafe/diner type of restaurant with a good vibe. Quality food valued right. We had breakfast here several times. The service was good and even with a pretty good crowd, not too noisy or obnoxious.

“They couldn't be bothered to seat us, so we left.”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were looking for an easy and casual place for lunch, and we spotted the very attractive Island Palms right on the main road through Kapa'a.

We entered and waited at the vesitbule, from which we could see at least five vacant tables. No hostess, etc. was in sight, and we waited for about five minutes, at the end of which a very harried waitress came by, did not even look us in the face, and said "someone will be with you soon."

We waited another three or four minutes, becoming impatient. A woman behind the bar, who appeared to be shuffling papers and putting away glasses, etc., apparently noticed us getting fidgety, and she also then said to us, "we'll be with you in a few minutes." Why she couldn't or wouldn't come out from behind the bar in order to seat us--since there was no one at the bar at lunchtime--is a mystery to us.

At this point, we decided to leave.

Incidentally, we encountered several other restaurants on the island of Kaua'i that appeared to be significantly understaffed. If they don't even have time to seat you, how will they serve you?

We are breakfast here. Not terrible but also not wonderful. Tasted like something I could make myself. My husbands gravy had a werid taste to it. Service was friendly, price was average. But when you are on vacation you want something that is great not average.

“Don't recommend this place”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

We went there on a Friday night and the place was empty. The calamari was 10 over-cooked pieces in tasteless tempura, which was followed by tasteless mixed tempura with old vegetables. My husband ordered the catch of the day - mahi mahi - that came covered in a white sauce that was heavily spiced with basil or some other herb that could have covered up the taste of 3-day old fish. This was so disappointing that I could never recommend it. And while our server was attentive, the owner/senior staff member would have done well to get off the phone, which he was on during the entire time we were there.

“Great service, average food”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

The restaurant is very lovely, exceptional service. However our food was well below what we expected.
My friend had the baby back ribs. They were well cooked, but bland and the side dish of veggies and white rice was well...boring.
I ordered the Hawaiian stew. It had plenty of slow cooked beef, but the veggies that were advertised as local? Well just over cooked potaoes and carrots. Worst of all the "stew" base was good old Cambell's tomato soup.
