Spent 8 nights at Kapaa Sands from Sept5-13,2004. Ocean view room #18.
We were looking for a small place, on the ocean, that was quiet. This was it:> Kapaa is the friendly town on the island, not over touristed and prices here for food (safeway and cost u less) and trinkets(abc store) beat everywhere else on the island. The pool is fantastic and has a great bbq near it. We had the lower floor with no one above us for at least 4 days which was great. The lower floor gave us a lanai that opened into a lush green small courtyard that then looked out onto the ocean. From this room car sounds can be heard around 8 or 9 am, but only for rush hour. This unit had beach chairs and a foam cooler which we definately used, full kitchen with all cups and utensils. The bathroom probably needed remodeling, but for the two of us, it worked out.
This was my first trip to the islands and I was not looking for 300 people in the Marriott. I felt we got lucky in finding this place, in that it was so relaxing and centrally located to all other parts of the island. This was a very quiet complex. We checked out the other time shares and hotels along this stretch of beach and they would not have suited us, in that they all were much larger and didnt offer the great lanai we had or the feeling that you were not in an overcrowed resort. Its not fancy smancy here, but for $110 a night we loved it. We are trying to get a two bedroom unit for next year so we can take our son and his best friend here. They would love this hotel!!! It is on the beach and the beach right to the right of it is very very swimmable.
My tan is not yet gone, and neither is my first memory of kauaii, thanks also to a nice place to stay:>
