We stayed in unit 17 and had a wonderful experience. The kitchen, fully equipped with utensils, was a big convenience. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the lanai was quite pleasant. The location is great and has a cute beach, although probably not suitable for swimming. We will return when back in Kauai!

If you need to be pampered - look for a different location. No SPA or gym here - but - This place is awesome - stayed in #12. Lower level right on the ocean. Shared laundry room. pool, BBQ. The location on Kauai is perfect. Kapaa is centrally located with easy access to the North, South and West. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Stove/oven, microwave, fidge, dishwasher. TV and dvd player. combination safe in the room.

close to the airport. we could actually sit on our porch and watch the planes come and go - but you cannot hear them over the surf :)

Safeway is about a mile up the road - Costco, Kmart, Walmart about 5 miles away

Comfortable,

You will not find a better or even equal value on Kaua'i. Clean well furnished accomodations, excellent staff, ocean front units very close to the ocean, shopping and restaurants in walking distance. I cannot imagine what "lovnhawaii"s problem is, as the place has newly painted woodwork in excellent condition. One of our guests weighs about 250, and had no, repeat NO problem with anything. Perhaps he / she has a permanent "bad hair day" condition.
L&L Foster. ps we are going to stay there the entire month of October 2014.

Room Tip: Any of the Ocean Front units. 2 bedroom for up to 4, studio for 2

When we visit Hawaii, we are rarely in our room while we're awake, so we don't spend a lot on our accommodations - we just want something clean and comfortable. This was perfect for us. We were in Unit 19, which is in the "back row", a.k.a., oceanVIEW, not oceanFRONT, but being on the top floor you can see a good chunk of the ocean from the room. This studio room was carpeted, which is odd for Hawaii, but it was fine. Kitchen was very well-equipped, though we didn't really use it except to make ice cubes for our Camelbak. Small bathroom, as others have stated, but we were ok with it. The owners provided a few beach toys, emergency sunscreen, and a few other things which we personally didn't take advantage of but it was nice to see. We did not use the laundry facilities. The pool is small but clean; we popped in there for an hour or so for a dip. It was a refreshing change from the saltwater. There are (I believe) two BBQ grills in the pool area which could be fun if you weren't lazy like us and wanted to cook.

We live on a busy street in Chicago, so the "traffic noise" some mentioned was completely unnoticed by us - it's a seriously small street, I don't know how anyone could be annoyed by it. Also, the sound of the waves and occasional rainfall was incredibly soothing and we slept great.

The beach was not swimmable during our trip but it was pretty and makes for some nice sunrise pictures when you inevitably wake up at 5 am your first day on Kauai.

Our first night we walked over to Trees Lounge, which was an excellent first stop (great fish tacos). The location is convenient - only about 10-15 minutes from the airport, short drive to a couple of grocery stores and many restaurants, shops, and shave ice places, and centrally located if you plan to explore the north, south, and west sides, as we did.

We had limited contact with the staff since we were gone so much. However, a couple of things to mention: We stupidly left our extra camera battery and charger plugged into the wall when we checked out. When we contacted the office, they were very pleasant and found the charger for us and mailed it to our home. I suspect that, had we stayed at a major hotel, it would have been sold on the black market within about 5 minutes of checkout. Another plus: I forgot to call them ahead of time to let them know we'd be checking in late due to our flight arrival, but called the posted emergency number and we got into our unit with no problem thanks to Scott and the lockbox. Thank you Kapaa Sands!

Room Tip: Top floors have better views :)

Reading the reviews you might not believe so many people can have the same wonderful experience, but it is truly a little bit of paradise. We did not want to stay in a resort as we wanted to do our own thing, relax and not get dressed up to go down to breakfast! We had an ocean front room and I sat on the balcony every morning watching the sun rise, we lingered over breakfast finally tearing ourselves away from views which many hotels do not have.
The main room holds a dining table with 4 chairs, a 2 seater sofa, king size bed (2 twins together) and TV. The shower is compact but the water is hot, the sink is somewhat small, but you only need it to wash your hands/face and teeth! The kitchen was well equipped - even with a kettle for tea! It would be nice to have greater access to laundry facilities but knowing we would have trouble we made sure we arrived with enough clean clothes for the 5 days we were there. We did manage to get one load done, and I did a bit of hand washing in the kitchen sink, when you consider some top hotels only have dry clean facilities this was not as bad as it may seem.
With just one road round the island Kapaa Sands is well placed for trips to all parts of the island and with 2 supermarkets and a few restaurants it ticks the boxes for a quiet, romantic break.
Yes, the waves were loud, one night we had a heavy downpour of rain and I dreamt I was on Noah's Ark!
A magical place,do not expect a palace, expect peace, quiet and total relaxation. We were sad to leave and would dearly love to return.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms!

My boyfriend and I stayed 6 nights in an Ocean Front 1 room condo. This was our first visit to Kauai, but I have been to the other Hawaiian islands. I am hesistant in even writing this review because this place is so GREAT, and I want to keep it my secret. Kapaa Sands is in a great location as it is walking distance to the Coconut Market Place and several restaurants. Condo was very clean and exceeded my expectations. Also had a great pool, which we almost always had to ourselves! There were 2 large gas grills by the pool area which looked very clean, but we did not have a chance to use. Grounds were beautiful with tropical vegitation all around! Kapaa is very centrally located on the island, so that is why we originally chose this location.

Condo does not have air conditioning and I actally prefer it that way. There was always tropical breeze/trade winds coming through. It took me a night to get used to listening to the surf, as you are literally right on the ocean, (but it could have been the jet lag). After the 1st night I wouldn't have it any other way. We sat on the lanai for hours at evening/night. We didn't turn the TV on once the entire trip! The bathroom in our unit was very small (I will warn you). You almost had to angle yourself a certain way to sit on the toilet and avoid the sink. (This is not a complaint, but I do want to give an accurate description).

If you want to see the real Hawaii, this island has it all. I hope to be returning very soon, and will definitely stay here again! P.S. I was told the owners recently remodeled the kitchen, so it was a very open floor plan. (It was beautiful).

Absolutely wonderful condo. Great location, ocean view and you have beach access. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cute studio condo at a very reasonable price.
We paid around $90 a night not including tax and cleaning fee.
The room also had a fully equipt kitchen and all necessary beach items. ( beach chairs, cooler, umbrella and towels)
