Absolutely wonderful condo. Great location, ocean view and you have beach access. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cute studio condo at a very reasonable price.
We paid around $90 a night not including tax and cleaning fee.
The room also had a fully equipt kitchen and all necessary beach items. ( beach chairs, cooler, umbrella and towels)

My husband and I have stayed at Kapaa Sands 4 times now, first in 2001. We have stayed in unit's 8, 10, and 1 - have stayed in 1 the last 2 times. Simply wonderful...sometimes I have wished for air conditioning, but the grounds and the proximity to the water/sound of waves just can't be beat. It is also in such a great location, centrally located between the north and south points of the island. Whatever you do, do NOT miss a dinner at the Huki Lau, within walking distance of Kapaa Sands.

Room Tip: Definitely go for an ocean front room - the wave sound is fantastic, plus it's so nice to be abl...

This was our first visit to Kauai. Before even arriving, we were pleased with the recommendations and wonderful friendliness of Amy on the telephone, who ultimately helped us choose Unit 9...an upstairs ocean-front studio unit. It was worth the additional money. Any problems with our unit (which management knew about and said will be corrected soon) were overlooked by us once we saw the incredible location of these condos. We spent much of our time on the lanai, admiring the sight and sound of the ocean. Landscaping was beautiful, and a boogie board was available on our lanai for use in the ocean. (We bought a second one and left it for future users, so there will now be two.) We were there at a warm time of year, but found the two fans to be sufficient. We kept the sliding glass door open during the days and closed it at night and when we were gone for security. (There is no air conditioning.) The bed was comfortable, and the sounds of the ocean throughout the night helped us sleep the best we had slept in a long time. Be aware that the bathroom is very small, and the shower stall is even smaller. It was no problem for us, but the very skinny shower door required turning to our sides to slide through the opening. (The door was maybe 15" wide.) If I recall correctly, we were told that all studio units (1 bed) had this type of shower. There is no tub. But, as I said, we loved the unit so much that we adjusted to the shower opening without complaint. Water pressure was fine and hot water was good. We were surprised to find clean towels and our garbage emptied every other day. (We didn't expect this in a condo.) We were able to walk the back road to the Coconut Marketplace, where there were shops and restaurants. Parking was easy at Kapaa Sands, with plenty of spots in front of the units. Scott, the manager of Kapaa Sands Resort, was as welcoming and friendly as Amy. He had suggestions for places to visit, which we appreciated. We didn't expect to use the pool, being so close to the ocean, but we found it enjoyable and refreshing due to the warm temperatures we were having. Kapaa Sands is just past Wailua and a few miles before actually entering the town of Kapaa, so visits to town had to be by car. Kapaa Sands was the perfect place for us to stay during our visit to Kauai, and we will most definitely be staying there again when we return next year!

Room Tip: Spend the extra to get an ocean-front room. You'll be glad you did.

This little cluster of condos is pretty good as far as Kapaa goes, but don't stay in the rear units, stick to the oceanfront ones. We stayed in Unit #22 which feels like you are living next to the highway as you do have a direct line of site to the busy Kuhio Highway a half block away. The view out the front is great and the lanai is nice. The proximity to the beach is nice although not the best swimming beach. We had family in the ocean front units and those were winners, no highway noise and a great view that makes up for a lot of other issues.

This place doesn't seem to cater to vacationers very well, the first day were were there a guy with an orbital sander was 2 feet from our window sanding a railing while looking in our unit, and over our week stay we had all kinds of circular saws, power sanders, leaf blowers, hammers, etc noising up what should of been relaxing afternoons on the lanai. The fact they scheduled so much work to the units without telling guest beforehand was pretty bad.

Our unit number 22 felt sticky and dirty, the carpeted stairs and bedrooms felt gross on your feet. Window treatments were all rusty or broken. The 2nd bedroom was tiny and faces the highway. There were no less than 4 flood lights pointed directly at the windows of the two bedrooms. It just wasn't a relaxing unit to stay in.

We have family who continue to stay here year after year so this place does draw people back, but just do yourself a favor and do not stay in the back row. Ourselves, we were pretty down on Kapaa after spending the rest of our time in Poipu and the north shore, we wouldn't return to Kapaa.

Room Tip: 1-16 is oceanfront, 17-24 is back row. If you choose back row, avoid #22 which is directly across f...

We stayed here for 10 nights in June, in 3 different units. The first unit we only stayed in for one night, mostly because I have difficulty sleeping. (unit 18) It was very close to the parking lot and because you have to keep the windows open (no air conditioning) I found it a bit noisy. I could also hear the people walking around in the unit above us. The bed was also very uncomfortable. The unit was fairly basic and had a bit of an ant problem, which I suspect is common for ground floor units in general.
The second night we moved to an upstairs oceanfront unit (13?) which was much better for sleeping- the sound of the waves was wonderful. We really liked this unit- was very well supplied in the kitchen and had nicer patio furniture. The curtains were very hard to open and close and the bathroom is very dated. There is virtually no counter on the sink. There is however, a good amount of storage behind the toilet. The showers are also very small. We only had 2 nights where we wished we had air conditioning. There was usually a nice breeze and the ceiling fans were great.
We checked out for one night to hike the Kalalau trail and came back to a different unit. The office staff were very nice and helpful and we were able to get into our a room a day early as we ended our hike early. This time we were in unit 7. This one was a big dingy. There were several things that didn't work in this unit- the shower head was broken, the phone didn't work and a few light bulbs were burned out. The staff did fix the problems very quickly though.
The rooms were fine for us and we don't spend much time at our hotels when we travel. We did enjoy eating on the balcony- great view and cute little beach. Saw a monk seal the first full day there. Would have been nice if the units had 2 boogie boards instead of one as we both would have liked to try them, but not alone. The grounds are pretty, the pool pretty basic. One problem we did have was with the limited laundry time. It was only open a few specific days and only during office hours. As we were gone early every morning and often not back til after dinner, it made it very difficult to wash our clothes. We only had one day that worked out. We also couldn't get new beach towels and had to use the same ones for 5 days.

Room Tip: I would definitely spend the extra money for an ocean front room on the second level for more privac...

This place was just perfect for what we were looking for! Centrally located, ocean front, fully equipped kitchen, BBQ's on site, clean and well managed, beautiful lush landscaping and the biggest bang for your buck! There was laundry on site, DVD's, books, coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs and towels. We lacked of nothing! There is a bakery right at the corner and even a cake place where you can get fantastic desserts! It is also next to the Coconut market where they have Farmer's market weekly. No it is not luxurious like the Hyatt but we were glad to save on accomodation so we could spend more on activities as there is just so much to do in Kauai! Some improvements were being done to the property as we were there (pressure washing, painting, etc.) and we were given an extra discount to compensate for the inconvenience. Now that is what I call great customer service! Thank you managers Amy and Scott, we will definitely recommend the Kapaa Sands to our family and friends!

It's worth studying the reviews on this site to find the right place for you. I did that, and we were very happy with this place. Beautiful oceanfront apartment, clean and affordable. We stayed in number 13 which I recommend. Good location, close to town. Friendly staff. Nice gardens. Swimming pool. Comfortable bed. What else could you ask for?
