We stayed at the KCR for 1 week on our honeymoon and it was the best trip either of us have ever taken.

We stayed in room 1307 - third floor - the view was of the field/public access between our resort and the one next to it (far enough away that you didn't really notice it and mostly blocked by trees) if looking straight out, and of the ocean and the direct sunrise if looking to the side (a beautiful thing to wake up to every morning). It was the first building on the left and it walked right out to the pool area. It also has quick access to the fitness centre and parking lot.

The room was clean, quiet, spacous, and filled with all the appliances you could need while you're there including a washer/dryer, garbage disposal, & dishwasher. The his and hers sinks were a great thing to have as well. We loved going out onto the room long lanai (balcony) and appreciated the effort to conserve energy by having the air conditioning automatically turn off when the lanai doors were open. Housekeeping came every 2-3 days it seemed to us, but you can call anytime for them to come up or to exchange towels.

They mean it when they say this resort is right on the ocean - though swimming is not recommended at this beach by travel guides (we used The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed By Andrew Doughty 7th edition - it was the other thing that we couldn't have done without on this trip). It was great for walks on the beach and wading. Many people took lounge chairs up to right before the beach to read and tan, however we didn't bother moving ours as they were close enough as it was.

The main pool has a nice little waterfall at the far end which is a nice touch - it was nearly always empty when we were there in the evenings. The hot tub cut out during the second half of our stay, but the staff were quick to let us know, apologise, and get working on it. They also have a kiddie pool and a sand area with toys for any little ones.

Outside of the resort we rocommend Lydgate Beach Park for kids, beginner snorkelers, and calm waters (between Lihue and Kapa'a - it's surrounded by a rock breakwall), Po'ipu Beach Park for swimming and a bit more to see snorkeling (in Po'ipu), Kalapaki Beach for boogie boarding, body surfing, and swimming (in Lihue - best bet is to park at Anchor Cove Shopping Centre), and Ke'e Beach for snorkeling and swimming - there's a hiking trail there too (past Ha'ena, literally at the end of the road). If snorkeling, check out Boss Frog's shop (three locations - just north of the resort on the main highway next to Snorkel Bob's, on the way to Po'ipu, and one more I can't remember) for cheap rentals and also check into renting their underwater camera - it takes great shots (about 600) and does video with sound (about 40 min). They switch out your batter as you need it and burn everything to disk and give you as many as you want after.

The resort also has tennis courts (I believe rackets, etc. are provided) and a day spa onsite. The free wifi barely had a bar in our room and didn't connect; we never mentioned it or tried taking to the main lobby, but thought that might have helped.

It's located just before the busy part of Kapa'a, so it's quiet, but really close to shops, restaurants, and grocery stores/farmers markets. Infact, the Coconut Marketplace is right next door. For grocery shopping I recommend getting almost everything at the Wal-Mart in Lihue as it's closest to mainland pricing and to get your fruits from Farmer's Markets (again, the guidebook lists when they are at different locations around the island, but I think the one at the Coconut Marketplace is on Wednesday).

The resort does have a restaurant on site. The view is wonderful and the service is great (yay for Ryan our server who was awesome) and the food is really good. The price is a little high, but still reasonable for a nice dinner out. Otherwise we recommend Scotty's Beachside BBQ in Kapa'a, Tip Top Cafe for Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes for breakfast in Lihue, and Ono Family Restaurant's Shave Ice/Ice Cream Shack for a treat (love the Macadamia Nut Ice Cream) in Kapa'a.

The consierge is very helpful with booking anything you wish to do while you're in Kauai, however, if you qualify for the timeshare tour you get some pretty awesome discounts. If you don't qualify for the tour (like us) then check out Boss Frog's shop (snorkeling etc.) that's just north of the resort on the main highway (next to Snorkel Bob's). They have compeditive rates and are very friendly. I do caution you however, not to book Duke's Kayak tour of the Wailua River; we and some other customers showed up for it, they didn't.

Overall, our favorite things at this resort were the location, view, comfortability and ammenities in the rooms, and main area (pool and sun area). I can't see how anyone could come here and not absolutely love it.

Checked in 11/26/2010 - Room appeared clean and had nice ocean view. Were horrified to discover uncleaned areas behind matress, including an infestation of bedbugs under the box spring mattress. Fortunately we had found this out before we spent the night and they moved us to a remodeld room!

First I want to apologize that the situation interrupted your vacation. I can imagine how something like this would be very unsettling on your vacation to the Garden island.

Yes, Bed bugs can occur at any property as it is typically brought in by travelers who have picked them up from other hotels. The best thing a hotel can do is to take preventive measures to insure that they do not spread or get comfortable.

Here at the Kauai Coast Resort we take several measures to insure that they cannot make it a permanent home. The best measure is that of early detection and to quickly quarantine and exterminate an affected area. The resort team constantly monitors using two types of detection to increase the chances of catching them at an early phase. One is with monitoring tape that would collect any bugs that would walk across them. The other is with mobile traps that attract, capture and exterminate them. There are also impermeable bags sealing bugs out of our mattresses. When a situation arises the room is first locked off from the hotel staff members and guests and then it is treated by professionals. Not only is the affected room treated but also the rooms directly to each side, and above or below are thoroughly tested and inspected. This assures us that it has not spread to any other units.

While no one can prevent these little buggers from appearing we do take every measure to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of our guests during their vacation.

This is our third time staying here and the units with ocean front views are the best. And of you can so steps (no elevators), try for the top floor. You can hear people above walking and neighbors next door snoring. Units come equipped with full kitchen appliances and laundry, so you can carry your bags on the plane and do laundry whene needed.

Me and my wife stayed here for our second week of our Hawaii trip. The first week was on Maui. The best way to describe this place is that it is not luxurious but comfortable. We stayed in a one bedroom garden view room. This is a timeshare resort so if you are not a member you will not get a ocean view room, they are reserved for members only. The unit itself was comfortable with all the home away from home stuff you need. It had a full kitchen with refrigerator with ice maker, dish washer and stove top oven. Good size bathroom with an over under W/D. Decent sized L/R and B/R. Both with a flat screen TV and DVD player. The bedroom and living room had sliding glass doors that led out to a small balcony. The only problem with this was every time you opened the L/R sliding glass door the A/C turned off as an energy conservation item. Another thing I noticed about the unit we stayed in was every time we came in to our room from being out for awhile their was an odor we smelled as soon as we opened the door but then it either went away or our noses got used to it after we were in our room for a couple of minutes. I also noticed this odor in the hallway. Kind of like the rugs were real wet at one time then dried and got a moldy smell. The unit itself like other condo resorts only offers full maid service once a week but does offer trash and linen service everyday. But if you need anything else the staff is very friendly and courteous.I felt bad for the guy who handled our luggage we were on the second floor and the building had no elevator. The grounds of the resort are spectacular. Whoever is ahead of their landscaping should be rewarded for the excellent job he does. Their is a pool and hot tub with a pool side bar and grill and gas grills if you want to grill yourself. The pool is not very large but it doesn't have to be since this resort is only big enough to hold about a hundred guests. The resort is on the beach but you can't go swimming because their really is no beach since it is all rock and no sand. So if you want to go swimming on the beach you have to go a couple minutes down the road to a public beach. Check in was quick and efficient. Their is a restaurant off the lobby and I highly recommend dining here because the food and service were excellent a little pricey but worth every penny. Also since this is a time share resort they will try to sell you a time share but they are not pushy about it. If you go to the concierge and try to plan some events you can get some good discounts but you must go to a time share presentation to get them. We did this and got about 200 dollars in discounts and when we went to the presentation we were able to to say no and walk away after 20 minutes.Their was no pressure. If you want to go shopping to stock up the kitchen with food their are a couple of food markets just up the road one is a Safeway. Remember food in Hawaii is expensive but the liquor was pretty cheap. Get your self a Safeway card when you go shopping and you can save some money. Their is a small shopping center in the same complex as the resort it has a couple of bars and some stores to buy souvenirs and gifts. They have a store called The Whaler this is where you want to buy your t shirts and hats because they are very inexpensive.
So if you want luxury, elegance and all the extras you will want to stay somewhere else but you will probably pay more. If you want comfort, convenience and could care less about extravagance then stay here. It all depends on want you want in a vacation.

This resort is excellent. The one bedroom suites are well appointed and well maintained. The resort restaurant, although a little pricey (not unreasonable) offers excellent, excellent food. The pool is nice and the entire property sits right next to the ocean which provides a constant breeze and calm ocean sound. The suites come with washer and dryer which is really nice and the kitchen is fully equipped.

Overall this property is an excellent choice and value for a stay in Kauai. I have stayed at this property twice and if I travel to Kauai again I would book it without hesitation.

We just booked our 13th stay today. KCR is clean, comfortable, quiet and located in the "middle" half way between Poipu and Hanalei. Close to shopping, groceries, and restaurants. The beach isn't a swimming beach, but safe enough for wading and playing in the sand.

I booked this hotel because it fit within our budget and also because I trust the reviews on tripadivor. We checked into the hotel and were greeted by a VERY friendly staff. They told us where our room was etc. As we got to our room the security guard introduced himself and was also super friendly. He showed us to our room and made sure everything was ok before he left. The room was clean and well appointed. We stayed in the one bedroom condo. It had a full kitchen with everything that was needed to cook, washer dryer, 2 flat screen tvs and king size bed. It was great!Another great reason to book this hotel is because it is easy to drive north and south. The beach out front of the hotel is ok. We tried the restaurant and it was excellent! Overall this is the best hotel for the money I have ever stayed at!
