“Gentle Giant”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

If you are new to hiking you may find this a challenge. The humidity here is something to get used to, so pack some water for your hike. I like to hike, and this did not take long at all, maybe 40 minutes to the picnic area from the east trail. It was muddy in parts, so wear shoes with a good grip. The rocks on the trial can be slippery too, so watch your footing.
I agree that this is not a well mark trail, so stick to the main path, which is evident by all the shoe prints. There are a few shortcut that have been created by hikers between the trees and on steep inclines, but they can be hazardous. The trail does wind its way up in a zip-zag incline.
On the way back down, take a little extra time for the photo opportunities. There are a couple rest stops and even a few peek-a-boo views in the trail looking to the north of the Island. Pack flip-flops in your car, so you can change out of your muddy shoes when your done. There are no amenities/facilities here, so stop at a gas station on the Highway before you take to the trail. Aloha!

“Beginners Hike”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

While considered a beginners hike the trail is tough in certain spots and not very well marked. It is very easy to get lost along the trail and find yourself going in the wrong direction. The trail features very few mile markers and several side trails that bring you nowhere. These can cause a lot of confusion if you aren't paying attention.

One of the great free attractions of Kauai with incredible views of the entire island from the top. We did this trail with a large group of 20 or so individuals of all ages and fitness levels who were able to complete it, albeit at their own speeds

Definitely plan on 2-3 hours so you can truly enjoy the scenery and get some great pictures. Its a great way to start the day. Hiking gear/shoes are not necessary. I've seen people do it in sandals but wouldn't recommend it.

Drive down the road a bit and start walking up to the giant's belly. Pretty easy walk - great views.

“Mount Nou Nou Hike!”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

It was amazing, and free lol! 1 hour up and one hour down, it was a pretty easy trail, just very steep and have water! There was a 4 year old and his little sister doing this trail, even some older people I mean with Cane old! So you can do it if your any kind of fit. Amazing and well worth the view at the end!

“This is not a beginners trail”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

We had a blast on this hike. We are fit and used to climbs, but we met an older fellow who had fallen and was cut. The trail is tough in some areas and not marked very well. There are a few mileage markers, but many little side trails and forks in the road made it confusing. A couple of locals helped us out and we were very grateful.
