Discovered this great little (and I do mean "little") while on this trip. Was very impressed that our server got our names the first day and even with her days off, she remembered them! Get there early for best pastry selection (they are delicious!). So many different coffee (both hot/frozen/cold) selections, it's sometimes hard to choose which one to have - though I always managed to make a decision. They have the best Belgium waffles with fresh fruit, but alas, my last few visits found me waffle-less due to the barge not having come in.

I would definitely look up this little gem the next time you're in Kapaa'!!

We were excited about going to Java Kai because we prefer to support local coffee shops. Our first visit was average, the coffee good and the service full of attitude. We went back the next day and the register girl was a bit snotty but the barrista friendly and the coffee great. on our next visit we decided to not go back because not only were the front end employees in a bad mood, the coffees we ordered were not so great (a vanilla latte and Maui mocha)
If you are a local you might have better luck here

Coffee was good, better than Starbucks, but not our favorite Hawaiian coffee. Pastries were excellent, staff friendly, great place to sit outside and read, sip coffee chat with locals. My taro burger was very good, with spicy barbecue sauce. Husband's Surfer Girl was also good. Worth a repeat visit.

The coffee is really good, strong like a starbucks type. They have a cool selection of breakfast and lunch items. Our kids bought the chocolate brownie oreo muffins. OMG they were delicious

We had great service from the friendly staff and loved the cute little shop. Also loved the swag. Great t-shirts sweatshirts and hats. The coffee was rich and creamy and the best o had on the island. Highly recommended.
