“Probably the best coffee in town...”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

Great location as well as great coffee served by friendly staff, & a super selection of bites to eat, too (Small Town Coffee shop up the road should take note & stop making excuses for NOT having that!)...but crowded/very small, very often hot (no a/c or ocean breeze) AND usually excessively loud pop music playing over TWO speakers in such a small place makes this place LESS than the best. Unfortunately...

“Great breakfast food...”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

So don't let the day of the dead skull motif of their logo put you off---the breakfast food here is really good and the staff is way friendly. The bagels are fresh and tasty---and the Surfer Girl combo is a must.

Oh yeah: the coffee is pretty good, too.

“One of the joys of staying in Kapa'a”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

...is walking to Java Kai for breakfast. The coffee is always great, but the mention of the food gets me longing to go back. The mango scones are simply the best I have ever had--tender, moist, flavorful without being too sweet--and they are my favorite.

Counter staff are a friendly, professional group of unique individuals. Be sure to check out (and use in conversation!) there vocabulary word of the day. (If you are mystified, there is an open dictionary on hand. And the people watching and overheard snippets of conversation only add to the experience.

The last morning, on the way to the airport, I chose a more substantial breakfast. The Surfer Girl is egg, fresh greens, cheese and tomato on a delightfully fresh bagel. It's a hot, delicious and filling way to start a long travel day.

If only Java Kai could become the official pastry provider for Starbucks!

“Coffee nirvana!!!”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We stayed in the area for ~ 5 days. Found this place on day 2...and went every day thereafter. One of my trip souvenir shirts is from this place I liked the coffee so much. The espresso drinks are individually pulled shots (not machine measured). It's a craft cafe, if you will. And the pastries are worthy of a french bakery. If I could, I'd break up with my hometown coffee roaster cafe for this place...

“So Hawaiian and So Fabulous”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Visited Java Kai at least four times this past June. Coffee drinks are, of course, really tasty and fresh. They never served "overdone" coffee - coffee that has been sitting on a burner too long. Their smoothies are filling and quite refreshing. After a morning of kayaking and snorkeling in Hanalei, I stopped by Java Kai on my way back to Poipu. I was really tired, but didn't want to pass up another chance to frequent this place. I was rejuvenated by a wonderful fruit smoothie. Love the fact that they offer non-dairy options for smoothies and coffee additives. (soy milk, almond milk, etc...) Their menu items for lunch and breakfast are also very good. Again, I really appreciate the fact that they have vegetarian/vegan choices. The atmosphere is so peaceful, relaxing and, forgive the touristy term, "Hawaiian." Staff are friendly and there is a lot of great local art on the walls. I know I will spend a great deal of time here when I return to Kauai.
