The owners of Wailua River Kayak are wonderfully warm and friendly and extremely accommodating! They also have excellent kayak guides for the trip to the Secret Falls. Our guide, Cathleen, was informative and entertaining with her stories of Hawaiian folklore. She also brought healthy snacks to share with the whole group. It was our kids(ages 16 and 22) favorite experience on the Island of Kauai! Would highly recommend this company to ANYONE wanting a great Hawaiian adventure!

We visited Kauai in May, and booked the "Secret Falls" kayak/hike trip with Kayak Wailua -- two couples with very limited kayak experience, including one who was still recovering from a broken foot. Because of that, we opted for a small-group trip (consisting of just our foursome, plus the guide). Check-in was easy and quick, with no up-sell or hidden costs (there were options for different equipment, but no pressure around any of those choices). As novices, we got a straightforward briefing on two-person kayak safety and practicalities (how to get in and out, how to handle the boats in the water, how to most efficiently paddle), and were then off to the river (a quick trip). Our guide, David, was outstanding. He had an easy, friendly manner, and gave us good advice on handling the kayaks. He was also good company, and truly knowledgeable about the river, the natural setting, the flora and fauna, and Kauai/Hawaii in general. He gave us choices as to how we wanted the trip to unfold (also giving his professional opinion as to what would work best). We opted for the hike to the falls (our broken-footed kayaker patiently waited for us), which was worth the trip, even on the somewhat muddy trail (David warned us in advance that the trail might be muddy, given recent rains, so we made an informed decision to try it). David snapped pics of all of us through the day, and shared them with us later, which was great, as we had forgotten cameras. In every dimension, a great trip with a wonderful guide. Would definitely recommend it.

The crew was great getting everyone set up with kayaking gear, dry bags for your goods, and coolers for snacks (BYO). You can leave valuables locked in your car, we felt our car was secure in their private lot.

Our guide Kyle was very friendly and knowledgable. After an easy kayak up the Wailua river, we parked our kayaks on a little island, crossed the shallow river on foot and proceeded with our short jungle hike. Bring your bug juice because the mosquitos will go to town on you. The trail was super muddy because of the recent weather. Wear appropriate footwear! I wore Keens and my husband wore Vibram Five a Fingers and we did just fine. I would say hiking shoes are a bit overkill but just make sure you've got good traction because the trail can be slippery and you definitely will sink in a few areas so be cautious with footing. Kyle was nice enough to have a stash of walking sticks before we embarked on our hike, which everyone appreciated.

Throughout the jungle hike, Kyle pointed out interesting and noteworthy flora and fauna. There's a purple verbena flower that you can eat (tastes like a sweet portobello mushroom). Also, Kyle found us some awapuhi flowers to take down to the falls so we could "shampoo" our hair.

Secret Falls is amazing! You can rinse off from your muddy hike in the shallow pool and even swim under the falls. We ate our snacks along the rocks around the base of the falls and got some great photos.

This was a great half day adventure. We had enough time to go back to our hotel in Kalapaki to shower and clean up for an evening luau.

Kyle was a fantastic guide and we highly recommend this outfit.

During our trip to Kawaii our family was looking for a trip that could cater to our wide variety of experience with outdoor excursions. The day trip to Wailua Falls was absolutely mindblowing!

Our guide, Forest was supreme; knowledgeable, lighthearted and entertaining, his leadership definitely made the trip! I would recommend them 1000x over both for the quality of the guides and the gear they provide and the sheer magnificence of the trail.

The trail is very muddy, with some sections that can be knee deep; do not let this discourage you. Go slow, take your time and enjoy the amazing scenery and the ambiance of Kawaii and arrive at the secret swimming hole of the ancient Hawaiian royalty to bask in a beautiful pool at the base of a 150 ft. waterfall.

Thank you Forest snd Kayak Wailua for providing us with an amazing adventure. We will remember it forever.

Wonderful experience and great value. I love that this company has four time slot options to choose from and so it was very easy to plan this into our already packed week in Kauai.
Great orientation to kayaking- my boyfriend and I had only kayaked once before and we thought Jon's, our guide, instructions were very easy to understand. The water is calm and, if you haven't kayaked before, this is a great place to start!
The staff did a great job describing the muddy trail and even had loaner shoes to choose from if you did not have the appropriate footwear.
I thought it was a bit strange that if you book online, you have to wait until a staff member contacts you to confirm availability and confirm the reservation. However, I was contacted almost immediately and so this wasn't even a issue.
The hike is one mile in and one mile out. We were told that it normally takes about 25 minutes each way but, since it was super muddy, it took our group about one hour each way. We booked the 10am slot and got back to our car around 4pm.
I loved every minute of this adventure and would recommend this family-run company to anybody!
