“Excellent fishing trip with Captain Don”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

I've done a couple of chartered tours in Kauai and found the experience to be less than desirable. Most often, these tours feel like scripted conversations with a skipper or deckhand that's deader than the fish clubbed 10 minutes ago. Not so with Captain Don whose command of the English language through dirty jokes is enviable. Within an hour we were bringing terror to the local marine life. We walked away looking as green as a 3-day old lime, but we caught a cooler full of Wahoo and had a darn good time doing it.

Don cut us up a portion that was more than we could eat during our time on the island. I didn't mind not being able to freeze the fish and ship it back to mainland as I'm not a big fan of frozen fish. I live not too far Pike Place market and know exactly what frozen fish tastes like.

I would charter with Captain Don again in a heartbeat and look forward to seeing him again in Kauai on my next visit.

“Good time had by all!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

Ok...if you are expecting blue bird weather based on the videos you see...those were taken on an exceptional day! This is the Pacific Ocean people. Normal conditions are swells, wind waves, and wind. That said, we went out in normal conditions! Me, my brother in law, and are "seasoned" friend chartered the boat.
First intro's over, he stated make yourself at home, what's mine is yours. His deck hand, Calvin, started rigging lines and he took us over the equipment and expected procedures. Calvin was great, and he can drive the boat as good as, or better in his opinion, than the Captian. There was a lot of genial banter and teasing as well as friendly competition going on.
Don't go with a thin skin...expect to have a good time, teasing is open season on all, bad jokes expected, but when it's fish on get ready!
We had a good day out...five mahi mahi and seven aku, the skipjack tuna. When we went back he and Calvin fileted one of the mahi, and two or three of the skipjack for us to take home. His fish policy is anything over 25# is the boat's, under 25# he will filet as much as you can handle.
I highly recommend this for folks that take banter, teasing, and joking in stride and give as good as you get. We're firefighters so it was like our second home to us giving Don and Calvin as good as we got.
You bring beer and snacks, he supplies water and soda and fish. Over all a good experience and I'd go with him again.

“Good fun but rough seas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2012

We had a great time. We had Captain Howard (not Don) as our guide and he was a blast!! Everyone caught a fish. We caught skipjack tuna, wavy back tuna, and ono (wahoo). They don't advertise this, but Kauai is not protected from the trade winds by another island, so the sea is a bit rougher than one might expect. This is NOT for someone who easily gets motion sickness. But, the crew was great and the fishing was awesome! You block a portion of the day, so you can fish as much or little as you want and they will troll for anything you want to try to catch (no guarantees though!). Great time. I would recommend them if you are interested in fishing Kauai!
