The couple running this place (sorry don't remember their names!) were friendly and
ready to help when needed. I actually could have spent 1/2 day there perusing the
great selection!!! Great spot that readers shouldn't miss. (Plus there's the Hanapepe Friday
night Art Walk--much pleasure here too.)

“Talk Story Bookstore and Friday Evening Artist Street Fair are great outings in Hanapepe!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2011

This little jewel of a bookstore is located in the historical town of Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawaii and is well worth the visit! The owners tout it as the western most bookstore in America and are extremely helpful in directing patrons to their great selection of new and used books! We enjoyed perusing the shelves, chatting with the owners and petting the resident cat very much! A must see, along with the Friday evening artist's street fair, which includes local art, musicians, and food! Simply Delightful!

“Hanapepe Friday night art festivals are great!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2011

Talk Story Bookstore was one of the places we visited during a Friday night art festival in Hanapepe, Kauai. As the sun went down and the tiki lights came on, people could wander around the various businesses while browsing locally crafted art and jewelry. There were food stands and live music. I loved the name of this book store and the look of the whole town. It's worth an evening visit if the festivals are happening while you're in Kauai.

“Support your independent bookstore”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2011

There's something about walking into a bookstore like Talk Story - forget the "big box" stores and Amazon.com. It's not a place where you go in, find a book and walk out like Walmart, Kmart and the now defunct Borders. Its the personal experience of browsing through dusty tomes, finding treasures, and talking to owners Ed and Cynthia Justus. Talk Story has over 40,000 books - "beach" books for visitors. gems for the bibliophile, local authors' books and more...and more... Plan to spend time there - then browse through the rest of the charming town of Hanapepe.

“Wonderful Bookstore Adventure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2010

Talk Story Bookstore is THE premier used bookstore on the Island of Kaua'i. Although not as large as some mainland used bookstores, it still ranks as a bibliophile's dream. My husband and I first visited the store when we were tourists but now live on the island. Talk Story Bookstore has a fantastic selection of books and music from every genre. The owner, Ed Justus, is very involved and hands-on in the bookstore. He offers good bargains and will often find a reason to discount the books one wants to purchase. On Friday nights, the whole street comes alive. We wander the shops, listen to local musicians, and of course, browse the bookstore. There is plenty of food as well. Bottom line: Talk Story Bookstore is a magical experience!
