i went there on a Sat morning. they didnot have guided tour every sat , so i did a self-guided tour. it was a very good one. for 15$ they give you a very comprehensive information handbook with each of the plant and spot of the garden on it. if you read through everyone, it will probably take 2 hours. i was on a schedule, so i did it in an hour, felt a little rushed. the view is great. the valley is beautiful, and you learn a lot. they do have guided tours every weekday.

I would not miss this garden on your trip to Kauai. I felt as if I was transported to some far away Japanese shoreline surrounded in mist. The high vertical shaped rock formations surround the gardens and clouds float around their peaks. The gardens are impressive, but the location as a whole, with the mountains and ocean view make this place. It is truly beautiful. I highly recommend it. It is a photographer's dream and a very peaceful and restorative place for anyone. It is one of my fondest memories of Kauai.

On Tuesdays, the original guide does the tour. Long, but worth every minute and every penny! This being the north western end of Kaua'i there is always the chance of rain. We found it exciting to see how the native species are being reintroduced, as well as archaeological sites.

Is located near the end of the highway 560, not far from the Kalalua trail. Has a beautiful selection of natural and some imported plants, in a very natural setting. You start out at the base of a hillside and on your self guided tour (a book is given to you and there are also signs along the way) you see many of the plants on Kauai, along with some history lessons. Can be done in less than an hour. Is only open 5 days a week (was closed Sun and Mon when I was there), and has parking near the house, big sign next to highway identifying the turnoff.

These gardens were very beautiful and informative. It's a pretty steep hike for the most part and is about 3/4 of a mile, so be ready for some exercise. The views along the way are tremendous. Very glad we did this!
