Great drinks, it's a little more friendly now and I guess has decided to "welcome" tourists, but we used to like this a little more when it was very localised and you had to work hard with the staff / other patrons to drink there.

Your in Kauai not Honolulu! People, change your expectations or go up the the St Regis if you want resort luxury. Also can I suggest Poipu that maybe more your speed, if you didn't realise what a Hanaeli experience involved.

After the movie it's very busy with tourists when we visit now, and has lost some of that crusty vibe it used to have.

Mai tais are some of the best on the islands

We were braced for shoddy service and mediocre food after reading some of the preevious reviews. Surprised that the service was excellent from both the bar and the waiter. Mai Tais were not as good as one can make at home and the spare ribs were too dry. However the place was jumping with a great band and friendly atmosphere. 19 year old kid next to our table got up and sang for his birthday and brought down the house. Waitresses were dancing the hulu among the tables without all the gaudi grass dresses and flowers in their hair. Gave a real local authentic feel to the evening. Good local beer on tap. We had FUN!

After seeing this place in the movie "The Descendants" it intrigue me for a visit. At night the ambience is so much better. We were greeted by a very friendly host who let us know that the place was full so we added our name to the wait list (we were the only ones) and went into the adjoining modern small bar to have a drink. The bar shares the same menu but we were not in a hurry and waited for a table. The wait was only 10 minutes before a table was ready on the deck. We tried the Ono roll and pizza and both were really good. Our server was very nice and attentive. The wait for the pizza was over an hour but we were not in a hurry. Pizzas seems to be very popular so be prepared for a wait if you come during their busy times. The menu is very reasonable compared to dining at the resorts restaurants and it was fun entertainment with Aunty Beverly. If you are seating outside you can come into the small place to watch the entertainment and take some photos like many were doing. We'll be back.

We loved the atmosphere, we ate there one evening and service was great..we went back for lunch and the server was rude, left a bad taste in our mouth..She actually said she will be with us soon as we are not her only table! Obviously didn't care how we felt as we were 10 people and an automatic gratuity is added to her bill.

Love the island ambiance. Sat at the bar. Fern was friendly and very attentive. We had Mai Tais , pork sandwich and salad. Salad greens were fresh and flavorful. We' ll be back.
