We had such a great experience at Hanalei Bay on the 4th! You can still buy real fireworks in Hawaii and everyone heads down to Hanalei and lights them off on the beach! It was a great experience for my kids to see the fountains, Roman candles and piccolo Pete's from my childhood, and the entire bay was lit up with color! Really beautiful and fun!

This beach was breathtaking. Not only did you have gentle waves (in summer) and clear water, your backdrop is gorgeous green mountains with water flowing in the background, along with small boats and catamarans in the water. Very picturesque. The sand was soft, beach relatively flat and their were also facilities, picnic tables, and life guards on duty. Amazing!

What's not to like about a turquoise, aqua, blue, body of water greeting a crescent shaped soft sand beach surrounded by 2000 ft. mountains of green laced with cascading waterfalls. If you're longing for a tropical paradise, this is it. Hanalei Bay Beach was our first beach stop on Kauai, and though an unusually strong trade wind churned the usually placid waters, we found this beach beautiful.
Shallow waters make for great boogie boarding and paddle surfing amid the ample scenery, as well as a great beach for swimming and splashing. Facilities include restrooms (not supplied with towels or dryers) changing rooms, outdoor rinse showers and parking (get there early the lot holds maybe 30 cars comfortably) and plenty of beach and grass area to spread out. Lifeguards are on watch, and are very helpful with regards to water conditions. The beach is very accessible to walking, lounging or imagining your in your own paradise.

This is beach that we'll use to compare all other beaches to in the future.

A simply spectacular setting in Hanalei Bay surrounded by the lush, green peaks in the background. The waters in July were very calm and refreshing, with just enough wave action to make it fun for kids and adults alike. Definitely not 'packed' wall-to-wall with people... it was easy to find a spot to set up the chairs and umbrella and enjoy the ocean breeze, amazing sand and surreal scenery.

East shore is very crowded with the pier. West shore is way nicer, water is clearer & sand is cleaner. Great place to boogie board.
