The night before we ate here we were eating at Hanalei Pizza, which is right next door. Another guy in the courtyard there at the table next to us, leaned over and asked if we had eaten at the Village Snack and Bake Shop, and then told us we HAD to eat there and get the chilli chicken when we said we hadn't. So on our way out to Ke'e beach we stopped here for lunch and got the chilli chicken as suggested, and it was amazing!
It's located in the Ching Young Village (I think that's what it was called), which has a couple other dining options, and a number of shops, so it's definitely worth the stop!

My husband and I ordered one chili chicken meal and it was DELICIOUS, and plenty of food for both of us. We loved the sauce for the chicken and ate it with the brown rice as well. Did not get the mac salad, ordered green salad instead. It was a fabulous meal.
Took home a coconut pie, a piece of the apple cobbler and one piece of the chocolate/coconut pie. Not memorable, but we are dessert makers, so it has to be very impressive to satisfy us.

Breakfast options on the North Shore are very limited. Tried this place on a recommendaton. Don't let the name fool you, they do have inside tables and serve meals, not just snacks. First off, you order and pick up at the counter. The cashier, who seemed to have been the owner, was more interested in talking on the phone than waiting on customers. All the condiments, such as syrup, etc. are at the counter, so you have to take care of all this while getting around others trying to order or pick up food. (Very laid back, as is Kauai) On the morning we were there, it was rather hot and stuffy inside, so we opted to eat outside at a picnic table. ( This can be a problem if you have to keep going back and forth for condiments) I would love to give this place an Excellent rating based solely on the Tropical Pancakes, however the breakfasts for the rest of my family were a very weak ok. Good prices if on a budget.

Being frequent visitors to Kauai, we set out to try virtually all the "local" eateries and found this one to be pretty reasonable. It is not much to look at but the food is pretty good even when you compare it to the more high priced places such as Postcards or Hanalei Dolphin (both also good for fish dishes but pricey).

A local resident recommended this place so we gave it a try for lunch. From the outside it doesn't look that great but the food was "home cooked" and tasted great for a plate lunch. We have eaten at all of the choices in Hanalei (not many) and this was the least expensive and best comfort food we had in Hanalei.

I had the special of the day "kahlua pork and cabbage" which was great and my fiancé' had the sweet chili chicken. Both were served with homemade macaroni salad and rice. The entire lunch cost us less than $20.00.

We had breakfast there one morning and that was also great. I had the loco moco breakfast (hamburger patty smothered in gravy served with rice and 2 eggs (anyway you like) and macadamia pancakes.

I recommend sitting outside rather than inside. Only if the weather is nice, of course.
