Stayed here fOr 2 nights. Amazing. Just 1 min walk from the ocean. Private, clean, comfortable and fun! It's like your own house in North Hawaii. They have everything for you. Toby and Kirby cook great meals (ask for the Blueberry Mac Nut Waffles one day, they are the best) that will get your action packed day going. We stayed there to go home the Napali Coast a bit to start the vacation. After a long day hiking it's great coming back "home" to relax in paradise. It's cheaper than the St Regis or Grand Hyatt and a lot nicer In my opinion. I will reccomend this to everyone going to Kauai looking for something new to experience. Timeshares and Mega Resorts are great but this place is much better. After 2 nights we did a week in Poipu. Its lovely up there but I. The winter (and summer) expect more clouds and rain. Go south for the sunshine.

A wonderful, homey place to spend a vacation. Toby and Kirby are the ultimate hosts, and Toby's breakfasts can't be beat! No need for an alarm clock, the roosters are well "trained" - but they are all over the island, not just at the B&B.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mango Suite, with the beautiful king-sized bed & carved headboard. Wake up in...

My husband and I spent two weeks celebrating our 35th anniversary in Hawaii. After just a couple of days on the island of Oahu, we stayed for 6 days and nights on the north shore of Kauai, where we stayed at Kirby and Toby's B&B, Hale Ho'o Maha. We then spent another 6 days visiting the south shore where we stayed in a cottage. Hale Ho'o Maha had come recommended to us by my daughter-in-law's friends, and we were not disappointed. It was a great spot. It was very clean and comfortable. Kirby and Toby are very nice hosts with just the right balance of friendliness while respecting your privacy. They were very knowledgable about the island also, which was very helpful. Everything you could possibly need was made available to you........snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, use of the washer and dryer, boogie boards, sunscreen..........you name it, they thought of it. Our bedroom and bath were very nice, and the common area was great. You could leave anything you wanted in the frig. and cook for yourselves also........being on vacation, we didn't really want to do any cooking, but making a cup of tea before bed was nice sometimes........and of course, they had a beautiful spread for breakfast every morning. We would highly recommend the Hale Ho'o Maha to anyone visiting the north shore of Kauai, and would stay there again if we are fortunate enough to travel that way ever again.

This B&B was really great with just a few drawbacks, in my opinion. We stayed in the Mango suite. It was plenty roomy, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice and updated. Everything was super clean & very nicely decorated. Beach towels are provided. What previous reviewers say about the roosters is true - they definitely wake you up early in the morning! I really liked that this place had curtains that really blocked out the light, if you chose to use them. The lanai was small but nice and has a pretty mountain view. They also provide a fan which was a nice touch because we needed it. The Mango suite is close to the front of the house where the kitchen is so it can be noisy and feel a little less private. Also, when you leave the room, there is no way for you to lock it.

The breakfast was good, definitely adequate for my husband and I. Both days we had tropical juice (so good), a large plate of fruit, coffee & tea - one day we were served waffles, the other day scrambled eggs, sausage and toast.

Something really great about this B&B is that the owners let you use the kitchen. We didn't use it to cook but you can if you want. There is also a BBQ. These two amenities are really fantastic to have....if you were staying for a week or longer, being able to grill or use the kitchen would be a huge help. The only problem with this is that it is the same kitchen the owners use. Kirby is very friendly but like others have said you primarily deal with Toby. I agree that Toby isn't the most friendly B&B host you will ever meet, and I also agree that part of the appeal of a B&B is the interaction with the hosts. While we were there, there were another group of girls that had stayed at this B&B a few other times, so Toby was familiar with them and warm and friendly towards them. If they hadn't been there at the same time, breakfast may have been a tad awkward or uncomfortable. I think Toby's personality is a little dry, can seem harsh, and you can't really tell when he is joking and when he isn't. If you can have a thick skin then you will have no problem with this. If you think it might make you comfortable, you may want to keep searching.

That said, if we were to come back to the North Shore, this B&B wouldn't be our first choice, but if our top contender wasn't available we'd probably come back. We found a B&B closer to Hanalei which we found is much more convenient for restaurants and eating. Some nights we really didn't want to drive the windy road to Hanalei just to eat.

We have had the pleasure of staying at this B&B before and for us, we have now been spoiled and there is no place else that interests us to stay. In the past, we have stayed at the South Shore in a hotel, and ended up booking a few more nights at this wonderful B&B so we could actually feel like we have been on vacation. Kirby and Toby go out of their way to make their B&B like a home away from home. Kirby is extremely knowledgeable on Hawaiian culture and history and is active in the hula community. She dances at local events and is always willing to teach a guest or two on proper hula. Kirby's knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history makes a visit to Kauai more enjoyable. Toby has been instrumental in pointing us in the right direction for places to go and activities that put a person in touch with local life. Some of the hidden places where the locals eat are fantastic. This year, we made the trek to Kauai and their B&B with the intent of attending their annual 4th of July party. What a fantastic party too! I have been to many beach parties in my life and this has to be the best I have attended yet! The food and entertainment was beyond anything a person would get at a resort. The guests were real people and the entertainment was true Hawaiian style. For example, it was so fantastic to see four generations of a Hawaiian family up and dancing the hula!!! I highly recommend this laid back, comfortable B&B. Visiting Kirby and Toby is like visiting family you really like!!!

Room Tip: This B&B hosts a free washer and dryer with soap. Makes it easier to pack less and bring home mo...

The house was great. We stayed in the Guava Suite. Our room was nice - large, very updated bathroom, big bed, small porch, very clean. Breakfast was good. Large shared room and kitchen for the guests was great to have. We were able to stock up on sandwich supplies and pack lunches in the morning for hikes and trips to the beach. Toby and Kirby were great - friendly and helpful. Great location - perfect launching point for all of the exciting activities on the north side of Kauai (our favorite).
