We did a 6 hour tour of the Napali Coast with Kauai Sea Tours. This company is the best. There's a few other companies out there... One of them have really old, shoddy looking boats, the other has nice boats, but much smaller and cramped.
On the morning tour they feed you a light breakfast & a sandwich lunch that includes alcohol. The service was impeccable, Julie, Mika & John were our deck hands and they were very entertaining, polite, helpful, and waited on us hand and foot. The snorkeling was great, but the service (and of course the Napali Coast views) made this adventure well worth every penny. Be prepared to take your Christmas card pictures here. I can't imagine a more beautiful place on earth...

We are locals from Oahu, and although we wanted to "tour" Na Pali, we wanted to do so in an authentic, meaningful and fun way -- not in some cheesy, touristy manner. After reading reviews and talking with friends, we decided to go the route of the Kauai Sea Tours beach landing raft adventure. It was the best decision of our entire trip!

First, the raft tour is an ADVENTURE. If you have health problems, physical limitations, or don't enjoy the bumps and thrills of rollercoasters, you might want to choose the catamaran tour, instead. The catamaran tour, however, does not take you into the sea caves and cruises, rather than flies, across the waters.

That being said, if you do not fall into the above categories, the raft tour is the way to go. The hard-bottomed boat with inflatable raft sides is sturdy and is the same type used by Navy Seals. There are no "seats," as you position yourself on the edges, tuck your feet under a secured rope, and hang onto the ropes around you to secure yourself. Children are required to wear life vests, and adults may chose to wear one -- no one did on our tour, and there was really no need, as our Captain did an excellent job keeping it fun, but always safe.

The tour began at 7:15 am and ended at 2 pm. After departing, we spent about 2 hours touring the coastline, stopping every once in a while for the Captain to inform us about points of interest and give interesting historical details. Our first stop was amidst a sea of dolphins. Next, we landed at an ancient fishing village, where we walked around and ate a delicious, hearty picnic-style lunch. From there, we continued further along the coastline, zoomed in and out of some beautiful caves, and then returned to the village area for snorkeling, where we swam amidst some fish and sea turtles. (Not the best snorkeling spot ever, but it definitely satisfies.) They provide snorkel gear for everyone on board. Finally, we headed back to the port, which was the most "exciting" part of the trip, since we were going against the waves. When we concluded, we were thoroughly tired from the great adventure -- we did so many things and covered so much land!

You can bring along your camera and any other gear, as you'll be provided a waterproof bag to store your things. The Captain stops many times along the way, allowing you to snap photos and take in the beautiful surroundings.

Personally, I am so glad to have spent the money (~$119/person kamaaina, $129/person regular) on this, rather than a helicopter tour. You experience so much more and for a longer period of time. You also get a special perspective from the ocean-side, which is the perfect complement to the perspective you get from land-views, scenic lookouts and from hiking the trails. I definitely recommend this for locals and tourists, alike!

Special thanks to Captain Kurt for an awesome and entertaining tour. Request him if you can!

This was a fabulous boat trip. The captain and crew were wonderful, the scenery was gorgeous, snorkeling was smooth and easy, sunset was breathtaking. I would definitely do this again. My son and daughter, ages 22 and 26, loved it.

This was the best cruise ever. The crew was great and were there too help everyone out and too make sure that we all had a great time. The catamaran was the best one in Port Allen.

Upon learning that we were going to Kauai people strongly suggested taking the tour up the Napali Coast. After some research online I gave my wife the choice of the relaxing catamaran snorkel tour or the "raft" tour on the inflatible. To my surprise she picked the inflatible- she thought it would be more interesting. Well the tour didn't disappoint- our hosts TJ and Jason were great- personable and informative. I know they do this day in and day out yet they have found a way to keep it fresh for each new group of land lubbers. The ride itself is entertaining in that you better hold on to the ropes or you'll be swimming with the fishes. A lot of dolphins- we stopped a few times to watch the Spinner dolphins (they jump and spin in a playful manner). We were blessed with a beautiful day to boat up the coast past the Navy missle base and up to the majestic coast line of cliffs, beaches and caves. After about 3 hours of taking in the sights of numerous movies we stopped at a beach where we unloaded and set up for a tour of an old Hawaiian village, lunch and snorkeling. Waiting for us on the beach was a monk seal sunning after what looked like a good meal. These animals are protected and they know it. He later joined us for a swim while we were snorkling (KST provides the equipment). The lunch was good for sandwiches, chips and cookies- more than enough water and soft drinks.
