Review of Glass Beach

We were a bit disappointed to find this beach not to be what the name and description had stated. It was not difficult to locate as we followed the directions exactly the way it was described but parking was a bit challenging. We just parked above the beach area and walked down. It is not actual glass---a lot of glass was picked up already as people clear out the pieces of glass that appear here. We only spotted a sprinkle or two. Go if you are curious but don't expect much there.

The trip to Glass Beach is worth the stop. But you won't need much time once you get there. It is a small beach. A lot of the glass is gone. Once you get on the beach, veer to the left for the area where most of the glass has collected. It is cool to see and imagine what the beach looked like when the entire beach was covered.

This beach at one time may have been loaded with glass, but over the years it's been depleted. It's small but does have a nice view.

Not much glass here anymore. I am sure it is well picked over. Did find a few small pieces in all sorts of colors. Still very interesting to visit after seeing the old cemetery

While the glass beach was interesting, we were much more interested in the old engines and car parts below the cemetery to the left of 'glass beach' that were rusting away (or melting away) with the ocean water hitting them. The blue Kaui ultimate guide book directed us here past glass beach and I'm so glad it did! If you continue walking down the dirt road to the left, you will find a small entry to the 'Liquid Metal' beach. We literally spent over an hour walking around (lost track of time) looking at all the old metal engine and car pieces and parts. I guess it helps that we are both car people so anyone into cars should love this side trip! It is still a form of art IMHO. I'm posting some picks so you can judge for yourself! If it would have just been glass beach, we would have been disappointed to be honest, but this side trip made it all worth it! We even went back on another day to look around some more (we left before seeing it all the 1st time due to rain moving in).
