Housed in what looks like an old Dairy Queen location adjacent to the Eleele Shopping Center, Grinds offers a pleasing variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items at a reasonable price. The last time we ate there, they were using locally grown lettuce for the salads and sandwiches and their bakery items are locally made as well. This is a good place for any meal when on an outing to the west side for a beach day at Polihale State Park or a drive to Waimea Canyon/Kokee State Park.

My husband and I had lunch at Grinds Cafe. We went based on the recommendation of an ex-NYer who ran one of the Snorkel Bob's shops. We weren't disappointed. The sandwiches are huge, ingredients fresh and the staff lovely. Two people could probably eat one sandwich unless super hungry. We happened to be super hungry and still couldn't finish them. We sat outside in a covered lanai--not the best view but it did have a cute fish pond/fountain. They have a full menu but we just popped in for lunch. Grinds Cafe is a nice change, and much more economical, than the more touristy spots.

The resident cat is more than happy to join you for lunch.

Pastrami, Roast Beef, eggs, potatoes, onions, and peppers all mixed together into a big bowl for 10 bucks, you can't beat that. Oh, wait, add Kauai coffee, and yes you can!

When you are returning from Hanapepe area and want a bite, don't stop at the major food places make this small but quaint cafe your stop. A local stop with great food and they do not skimp on the food. A must.

This was a great stop for us. Even though it was before lunch, you are able to order anything on the menu. I love this. I hate it when the clock dictates what type of food I can get.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and my husband had the Ono sandwich. The first thing we noticed was just how good the bread was. They make their own and sell it by the loaf. We had a hard time not loading up on bread loaves when we left. The stuff they put on the bread was also good. The pull pork was different than what I was use to. It came with cheddar cheese melted into it and on sourdough bread instead of the roll. Being different wasn't a bad thing in this case. The portions were big. We ate it all since it was so good well moaning the whole time how full we were.

The service was great including asking us if we wanted a drink refill to go.

You can't go wrong picking here to stop. It isn't a fancy place, just good plan food.
