“Secluded Beachside Cottage Anahola Beach area, Kauai”

This rental is perfect for a couple or perhaps a couple with 1 small child. It is a nice 1BR apartment built behind the owners larger house. There is no A/C but plenty of fans and cross-through ventilation. Cable TV, washer/dryer, small BBQ and an adequate kitchen complete the basics. It is a fairly remote location but everything you need for housekeeping is available a short drive away in Kapa'a; there is also a nice fruit stand nearby. There is a short path to the ocean behind the owner's house. Anahola beach at this point has plenty of beautiful sand; the bottom is shallow and rocky for the first 10yrds or so, then deepens for good swimming. There is a protective reef about 100yrds out that keeps the surf inside fairly calm. The owner Dave will take you on a nature walk of the neighborhood - we returned with armloads of ripe star fruit! This is a beautiful residential neighborhood with some full and part-timers as well as other rentals. We rented through Kauai Vacation Rentals (we rented another place from them for the following week) or directly from the owner: www.shelmer.com/HMCottage/. Wi-Fi is available from the owner for an add'l $30.
If there is one downside, it was the neighbor's rooster who's watch seems to be broken and calls at all hours and seems to be right under your window. He and his rivals nearby have a contest over who gets the last word; he had me thinking about traps, snares and chicken stew!
Otherwise, this is a wonderful place to enjoy Kauai's ocean and country.

Thanks so much for your comments. I, too, am very upset about the roster next door. Our neighbor thought it would be charming to have fresh eggs so he purchased some hens, which brought in the roster. I, too, think often about roster stew. I wish there was a legal way to do something about him.
