Our family spent the second week of our vacation at the Hilton GVC Waikoloa Beach resort on the Big Island. When we arrived we were met by a very friendly staff who was sincere on helping us during the check in process. This was refreshing and a level of service we had come to expect from the Hilton Grand Vacation Club. Our first week on Oahu at the HGVC was not as friendly as the staff at Waikoloa. The staff seemed genuinely interested in helping you, the staff was fantastic.

The facility has a nice pool and has a nice golf course next to the property. You will not find a beach or restaurants here but there are plenty nearby at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort and a Hilton shuttle bus is available with a schedule. We had a rental car for our trip. In the resort area you will find various shops at Kings Land and Queens Land with a nice grocery store at the Queens Land.

The room was very clean and all kitchen items were clean to perfection. The grounds were nicely kept and our family enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was available if you needed extra towels or beach towels. We found the living space very nice for a two bedroom suite.

First, keep in mind this is not the big busy city of Honolulu. This is the laid back Big Island of Hawaii and you run on Hawaiian time, forget the rat race. There are little amenities directly at the resort. The pool is nice and relatively quiet. If you want busy, you can use the pool at the big Hilton Hotel resort nearby. Shuttle every 30 minutes. Our family use the large pool and we did enjoy the pool at the main resort. We had no trouble going over to the large resort to use the facilities.

When you travel to the Big Island, you have many areas you can visit. I recommend you have a rental vehicle to see the splendors of this island. You will find (I think) eleven climate zones. There is a nice nearby beach called Hapuna. There are other beaches, recommend that you read a book and review the island with Google Earth before you go.

Our favorite island activity is the beach and snorkeling. Find “two step” for some nice snorkeling or go to Fair Winds adventure for a trip off Captain Cook’s monument for some beautiful s snorkeling.

In closing final comment, as a Hilton Club owner this is our third trip to the Big Island and our first time at the Waikoloa Beach resort. The staff is wonderful and the manager should be commended in running an excellent facility. The resort staff, Marie, was extremely friendly had helpful in planning some activities we wanted to book. The grounds are very nice, the rooms were as expected from a Hilton Club facility. In addition, we left the Big Island late in the afternoon. Ask the desk, they have a temporary room that can be used to allow you to freshen up for that long trip back to the rat race.

My wife and I were very pleased with HGVC Waikoloa Beach Resort

Upon entering this beautiful hotel, I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff, and the beautifully landscaped property. We took a boat to the building where our room was... wonderful scenery along the way. One night, instead of riding the boat or tram to our room, we walked along the meandering path and immensely enjoyed the gardens and art along the way. Rooms were lovely, and restaurants at the resort itself were convenient and good.

There appears to be a lot of communication problems between the GVC and the resort. Both would constantly give us different stories. There are no amenities at the GVC. You MUST have a card to get anywhere! The KPC restuarant at the resort is terrible and way overpriced. Aside from the Hilton resort and a few shops there is nothing within miles of the resore. If you want to be away from the world, it would be a good choice, but if you have kids and want "walking distance" activities, you will want to consider a different option.

Stayed here in 2008, and bought a time share as a result. Really happy with both the quality and overall value of this place. Accomodations both times were first rate and the 2BR, 2Bath Condos have plenty of space with full kitchen (no oven), washer/dryer, and upscale furniture and flat screen TV in main room. The hotel has a small pool onsite with spa, a small bar, but no restaurant and no place to buy any items of food, etc. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes around all of Waikoloa, including the Hilton Hotel Resort.

A couple of hints - there is an owner's price for golf at the King's and Beach course located a stone's throw away, and both courses are very nice. Also - on the day of checkout, we flew out late in the day, so we checked our baggage at the desk, went to the beach, and they gave us a vacant room to shower in when we came back about 3:00pm. You also get a discount card for activities if you go to the sales presentation, and that can really reduce a lot of the activities costs.

The Big Island is remarkable in its variety - as people say - there is a lot of lava, but it also has rain forests, volcanos, black / green / white sand beaches, rolling hillsides, and beautiful beaches like our favorite at Hapuna Beach, which is about 10 min north of Waikoloa.

Favorite activity - parasailing and snorkelling near Kona and favorite siteseeing place is still the lava flowing into the sea on the south end as seen from the helicopter. Favorite area to shop - Kona. Favorite restaurant area - Mauni Lani shops.

One negative - the "Vog" (volcanic ash with fog)- 4 of 7 days we had an overcast sky, hazy but sunny, that was disappointing. The other 3 days it was beautifully bright and 83 degrees, but windy. Apparently the wind helps to push the Vog away.

We just returned from a 10 day stay at the HGVC Waikoloa with our 9 year old twins. On the plus side, the condos are very well appointed, spacious and it was great to have the kitchen and washer/dryer. Guests staying here have access to all the amenities at the Hilton and our kids ABSOLUTELY LOVED the slides at the Hilton. This kept them very entertained. We also enjoyed seeing the dolphins and snorkeling with the turtles in the man made lagoon. The hotel was at fairly low occupancy so we never had trouble finding chairs.
Negatives would be that there is no beach access at the condos or the hotel. The slides were great, but we could have been at a waterpark anywhere to get those features. The real reason to go to Hawaii is for the amazing beaches and it was a bummer on vacation to have to schlep all of our stuff in a car to the beach. We would have much preferred the option of walking to the beach from the hotel and being able to purchase snacks, drinks etc while there.
Another negative is that there is no place on the property to purchase food. After a long day out it would have been nice to just walk to dinner. (The King's Grille near the resort is great for breakfast and lunch, good prices and good food but not open for dinner) The food at the Hilton hotel was generally poor and fairly limited. (One of the restaurants was closed and pool service was spotty) We did purchase groceries at the Queens Market, but it is not wihin walking distance.
Parking at the Hilton was a little crazy and they didn't have any organized children's nor adult tennis activiites (maybe b/c of low occupancy) which we were disappointed by
We would choose to stay at an oceanfront property next time and buy a day pass for the pools at the Hilton. I probably wouldn't recommend paying full price to stay here, but if you can get a good deal like we did, it is worth it.

Had our first trip to Kona, actually first and last. Nothing against Kona but it is not for me. I had been warned when we landed we would see miles of nothing but Lava and they were right. Stayed at Kinds land and I can't say enough good things about it, beautiful, huge bathrrom with 2 person shower and bath, awesome balcony with BBQ area right beside it, balcony furniture, an amazing kitchen- could not have been nicer. FREE parking, FREE internet use in the business center- such a welcome improvement over the Hilton on OAHU The people has nice water falls and is not overly large but perfect for me. Also has a Jacuzzi in that area. The people were so nice and friendly, amazing tour of the room as well as helpful when we aked questions or needed anything. Shuttle goes every 1/.2 hour to various places around the property. We shopped at the market and BBQ-d 3 nights which was nice as we had been gone already 10 days and eating out was getting old. Was disappointed in the lack of an ocean view, but overall disappointed in beaches in Kona altogether. However, the black beach is amazing an absolute must see. Be aware to call and check on the volcano area when you go, as they were having high sulfur levesl while we were there and my husband had a greta deal of trouble breathing, so that was a downfall for us and somehting we should have thought about. Big island candies is a must stop, altough pricey well worth it. I had wished we stayed in Hilo area over night as I enjoyed that area much more then the Kona side. It was more down to earth and not so high end. Went to Mauna Loa and that was interesting as well. The Mac Pie I hunted for high and low was way over rated, not sure what all the hype is about that. Don't bother to hunt a piece down.

This is a huge, beautiful resort.! Public areas are very elegant. Resort is so big that they have a constant motorboat or tram to ferry you from one part to another if you don't want to walk it. We had an oceanview room in the Lagoon Tower, so we not only got the ocean vista but also could see the Dolphin Lagoon from our balcony. Very spacious room that was updated, clean and comfortable. We had a king bed and the sofa was a sofabed even though we didn't need it. Bathrooms are typical Hilton, not much from a size or luxury standpoint but functional. Big closet with an empty refrigerator that we filled with fruit, drinks and snacks from the nearby local market at the Queen's shopping center. This will help cut down expenses for families. In addition, you can get all of your souvenirs at the outside market as it's got a bit of everything. At the resort, even though they had an adult pool we chose to lounge at the man made lagoon. Don't misunderstand, all the pools are gorgeous, but the families were all well mannered and it was just fun to see the little ones having so much fun with the fish and snorkeling and playing. There are lots of water toys for rental. I can't recommend this hotel enough for families with children. The Hilton has plenty of things for them to do, including a "camp" with day care to allow the adults to also get a "vacation". The Italian restaurant was essentially closed but open in the early evening for drinks and appetizers. There are many restaurants on premises to choose from however and we had good food in those we ate at. (Try the pizza from the pizza oven... especially the ham and pineapple, yum!) Food and drinks were good but pricey. Would recommend and go back to this hotel. We had a wonderful time there and for the money we felt the value was there. Have paid far more at lesser resorts than this one is!

Tip: Adults: If you rent a car, go to Cafe Pesto up the road about 25 minutes in Kawaihae for lunch or dinner. Has to be one of the best restaurants on the island. Also another great restaurant was Bamboo up in Hawi on Hwy 270. The ribs there are to die for. Both are Excellent!!!!
