This was probably a great place, 30 years ago. It looks as though it has not been updated since the 80s. We found 30 yr old appliances, what had to be a 1st-gen microwave oven, a 25" standard def TV, and a VHS VCR. The carpet was medium brown and obviously stained. The sofas were so dirty that I didn't even want to touch them. And would it kill them to take a pressure washer to the exterior walkways and stairs? It also had a tiny, dimly lit elevator get get to upper level rooms. They have a workout room, but it isn't kept cooled. Imagine working out in a 90-degree room!

Aloha Tery R,

Thank you for your business. I am so sorry about the experience you had with us. And I apologize for getting back to you so long after your visit.

The units here at The Shores were built about 30 years ago. Some have not been upgraded. We would not put you in a unit where something did not work and there are so few units that have not been upgraded - I apologize. The worst part for me is that you said it was dirty. We clean the carpets and furniture all of the time - sometimes the stains just come back. I apologzie and will check every unit in the next week to make sure we do not have the cleanliness issue anywhere.

Every unit is individually owned - we cannot demand that the owner make any upgrades but we do not rent any units like that - if we can avoid it. And if we have to rent an older unit - we put special attention into the cleaning. It is not like our team to have made such a horrible error - I am truly very sorry.

We'd like another chance. And if you decide to give us one - make sure you call me direct. I'd love to show you what we are really about.

Thank you once again and I do apologize.

We decided to try out renting a condo for the first leg of our honeymoon on Hawaii. We wanted low-key and no crowds. Plus we felt we could save a few dollars by utilizing a full kitchen and bbq's on site. When we arrived at the Shores we were amazed at how beautiful the grounds were kept. Both the Queens and Kings marketplace offered a variety of shopping and restaurants as all were less than a mile away from the Shores. The Shores is located behind a golf course and adjacent to the Hilton, but it is absolutely tucked away. Instead of doing any shopping at the KIngs/Queens markets (very good but very overpriced) we found a Walmart, a Target and a large grocery store about 45 minutes away where we did some grocery shopping.

Our condo was 337 in the Bo Tree Tower. It overlooked the golf course and had great sunset views from the huge balcony. It was extremely spacious and had two bathrooms with three sinks. It was furnished with mostly wicker furniture and the appliances were a tad outdated but they more than sufficed for our trip. Also included were a washer and dryer. We ended up eating in for breakfast before venturing out to the nearby beaches everyday. There's a Walmart, Target and large grocery store located by the Kona Airport so the prices are much cheaper as opposed to the Queens Marketplace grocery. The pool and hottub were very private and clean. A few of the tiles in the pool need to be replaced but its hardly an eyesoar.

Overall, if you are looking for a great bargain getaway you will absolutely get your money's worth here at Aston Shores. Another bonus, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable.

Room Tip: Shop at the Walmart or grocery store by the airport

The Aston Shores had long been a place that my family and I would enjoy, however they have not kept up with the times. The condo's are outdated. They do not offer WIFI.. instead you can pay $40.00 for a week of one hook-up for one computer. They also do not have beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards etc...

Room Tip: Ask for at least a 2nd floor.. cannot do this when you get there...

We stayed here for 5 nights. Its amazingly well appointed (apart from A/C).
The rooms were very spacious the bathroom huge and well laid out. If I were to offer any comment it would be do not under any circunstances arrive there at night the road signs are appalling and the location isnt easy to find (even with Sat Nav) The pool was timy but did have a "spa" bubble supply which was nice.

We loved this top floor room because it felt quite private and the building is very close to the barbeques. The lanai had really comfortable (new) furniture. We swam in the pool, worked in the gym and played tennis almost every day. All of those facilities were maintained excellently. We enjoyed the women in the front office....they were always helpful and smiling. We liked being close to the beach and having the King and Queen's shopping centers within walking distance (maybe a mile). The bed was perfect and the condo was clean! We're planning to go again this year and we will rent the same condo.

A three day stay in a ground floor unit overlooking lawn and pond was a most enjoyable experience. Being fully self catering, one can either stay in, or eat out at the Kings or Queens marketplaces, a short drive or walk away. A walk to the nearby Hilton at Waikoloa was an amazing experience in itself. Naturally a car is essential. Make sure your car hire company allows you to drive on the Saddle road so you can visit Hilo or the volcano without going around the northern/coastal route. Most of the saddle road is fully upgraded so the only thing to watch out for is fog/rain. We stayed at Kona after this but the stay at Waikoloa was the most relaxing time. The pool and spa are another bonus.

Room Tip: Ground floor is easier to enter/exit and gives you more outdoor space but you might prefer an upstai...

We stayed for two weeks at the Aston Shores in March 2012 and we had a great trip. The location could only be better if it were located closer to the beach. But hey, the beach and area is super beautiful throughout and very little can be complained about. The suites are very large, as well as the lanai. It has everything you need for sure and the staff are sincere and accomodating. For those of you planning to stay at the super busy Hilton (right across the street):

I suppose if you want a holiday where you go to stay in one location and want to be waited on, go to the Hilton. If you want to spend money on being nickel and dimed for every little service, go to the Hilton. If you want a huge pool, want to swim with the dolphins and have the activities practically being thrown at you for the entire two weeks, go to the Hilton. I will tell you one thing though... You are missing the point of visiting this beautiful island! The beauty of this island is not located in a super-resort! It is out there and you need to find it, which makes this island so awesome!! Many people who pay many hundreds of dollars per night for the Hilton are not seeing past the walls of this beautiful resort and are truely missing the best parts of Hawaii. I have a great alternative: Instead of paying these extremely high prices for a tiny suite, stay at the Aston Shores! The location is almost as good (not on the oceanfront mind you) and your suite is three times the size. Our family did this, went to Costco and cooked all the food in the full sized kitchen (also with the Weber barbaques) and saved a tonne of cash. We went out and saw the gorgeous island every day and had this beautiful condo as our home away from home. Then on our last day (sad day) we had check out at noon, we went to the Hilton, paid their fee for a family room plus pool for the one day and enjoyed ourselves until 6 pm that night when we left for the airport. As we were leaving the Hilton we all agreed that having all the Glitz and glam is totally unnecessary for a holiday like this. What you need is a home location and the Aston Shores does this beautifully! Save your money and have a great place, you do have a choice!

Room Tip: We asked for the top floor and got it. This offered great views and was very quiet throughout our st...

Aloha from the Big Island!

I wanted to take this time to thank you for posting your wonderful review about The Shores on TripAdvisor! You have like many of our repeat guests found the hidden gem of the area. It is becoming more popular for guests to choose condominiums during their vacations. During a 2 week stay in Hawaii, a full kitchen and a separate living room space is a wonderful thing!

I want to thank you for your support and hope that we will be able to host you on a return visit! When you are ready please do not hesitate to call on me directly and I will be happy to assist you.

Mahalo Nui Loa
(Thank you Very much!)
