“Course needs a lot of work”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2013

We played at this course on 11/25/13. The routing has changed the last time I play because they use the Kings Course club house for both courses now. This is a fun course with a lot of water. The holes through the lava are interesting and beautiful. If you’re hitting it straight it’s not that difficult of a course. The conditions have gone downhill since the last time I played which is sad. This can be a great course if the maintenance was improved. The powers at be need to do a total refurbishing to both the Beach and Kings Course. The up side is the fees are reasonable for Hawaii. I paid $109.00 for an 11:00 tee time. If and when they make changes and improve the course, the fees will go up. The long and short of it is, if you what to play golf in Hawaii and not pay and arm and a leg, then this is the course for you. If you want great conditions with perfect greens and have good service from the staff then go to Mauna Lani or Mauna Kea resorts. You’ll pay anywhere from $165 to $250 depending on when you play. The best course for the money with great service and conditions is the Hapuna course at the Hapuna Prince Resort. I paid $109.00. If these green fees are a bit much for you then leave you clubs at home and enjoy the beaches and other great things that Hawaii has to offer.

“Fun with lots of sand and water”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

Lots of fun. Very nice course. Lots of sand and water, but not to the point of frustration. Great staff, but beware, no water on the course. Course provides 2 bottles per cart, but that is not enough. Bring extra water! Would have rated excellent if lack of water was made known before heading out.

“Not worth the cost”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

Played the Beach course first week of Aug 2013. Has some hard par threes. It is just average, especially for the cost, because none of the holes are remarkable. There is only one hole with an ocean view. My home courses, both municipal, (Torrey Pines and Coronado) are better and cost much less.

“Totally Dissapointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We played the Beach Course at Waikoloa on 8/12/13, and I am so sorry to say that we were completely disappointed. The only really good thing about the place was the nice man who worked in the pro shop. Otherwise, the entire course was run down and not maintained. Really....the muni course in Oakland CA is in better shape than this $120/round place. Even the golf cart was run down. Ours had a seat that was all torn up with the plywood base jutting out on the driver's side. Brown patches all over every fairway. Tee boxes un-mowed. Greens with blotches of infestation. Bunkers with compacted dirt. NO WATER to drink. No ball washers? When the beverage cart came by, I tried to wave her down because we were parched, and she paid no attention to us at all, and just continued to drive her route along the cart path. We will NOT be playing this course again.

“Played a here a lot, conditions best in awhile”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

I play here pretty regularly, along with some other courses on the island. My last few visits have had the best green conditions I have ever found at Waikoloa. They rivaled the greens at Mauna Lani. There are better courses to play on the big island, but if you happen to be staying near the course, you won't be disappointed. On my last visit the greens were faster than they have ever been and ran true. Good job Waikoloa greens keepers. (BTW - I played both the Kings and the Beach)
Also worth noting.... If you are staying anywhere in Waikoloa (including condo's) the shuttle will run you home after your round. This is great if you want your spouse to be able to use the car while you play. (they won't however pick you up from your condo)
