“Great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

The food was sooo good! And I'm a very picky critic. I saw that a previous reviewer commented that the menu was limited, however, we are a family of four vegetarians and an omnivarian. We had so many choices we ate here twice during our weeklong stay.

Here what we had and how we liked it:

Appetizers:

Spicy broccoli - delicious! My broccoli averse mom loved it, too.
Truffle fries - popular with the entire family!
Green beans - ok, but a bit bland

Mains:
lasagna - amazing!
mushroom penne - nothing special
two different fish specials - raved about by my husband
pizza - thicker crust than the usual thin crust, but fairly small in size, yet tasty

desserts:
papaya and pineapple crumble - ok, but not a must try

Our standouts were the spicy broccoli, the truffle fries, the lasagna, and the daily fish specials.

The place itself is usually very crowded and service on our first trip was adequate, but on our second trip was very good. It's probably going to depend on how busy it is when you go and who you get for a server.

I'm not sure about the one in Waimea, but we went to the one in Waikoloa and we enjoyed it very much.

“Update: Bloody Marys still the best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Happy hour and "pupus" may be their best efforts- also fresh vegies/salads. The bloody Mary's with celery are our favorite drinks on the island. Only dissapointment is the number of items with bell peppers that I cannot eat and at this Merriman's location are pre-made so can't be left out. They do not take reservations but you can "call ahead" to be put on the list for your arrival time.

“Good food but s-l-o-w!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

We stopped here for lunch when rain delayed our plans to head to the tip of the island. Even though it was still misting, we opted for an outside table rather than waiting 20 minutes or more for inside. The hostess very efficiently arranged our chairs to give as much shelter as possible from an overhanging umbrella, flipped the seat cushions to the dry side and wiped off the table. From there on, the efficiency disappeared. While we understood that the weather was keeping a lot of the resort guests from other pursuits so the on-site shopping center was probably busier than usual, my husband and I both felt that our simple order took far too long. Nearly 30 minutes seemed like too much for bruschetta, a BLT and fries. Fortunately, the food was well-prepared and attractively presented, or we would have been really aggravated. My husband had the garlic and truffle oil fries which were delicious. His sandwich was good, as was my bruschetta. Instead of just chopped tomatoes and herbs, there was a mix of tomatoes, caponata, fresh basil and capers with a sprinkling of goat cheese. However, we wouldn't opt to eat here again due to the slow service. It wasn't just our server--everyone was looking around and clearly wondering about the delay. A simple lunch in a casual place shouldn't take that long.

“Tasty lunch in a convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is our second trip staying in the Waikoloa resorts area. We were looking for some fresh and more local dining establishments. The first time around we were traveling with family with kids which means we had to find the most convenient eating options. This restaurant is in the King's Shops area ... the higher end and smaller of the two at the entrance of the Waikoloa Beach resort area so this was convenient as well.

We came for an early lunch after arriving from the airport and had a very pleasing and tasty lunch. All the ingredients were very fresh. It is Mediterranean inspired with pizzas, pastas, tapas and the like. I opted for the BLT and it was very good especially the homemade aioli spread. My husband ordered the Greek salad and he had no complaints... also very fresh. They seem to use only local and fresh ingredients and it shows. I had the pineapple lemonade which was very refreshing ... and although they will give you one refill it was for plain lemonade only.

We did not order from the bar but they seem to have a large selection and by the time we left in the lunch hour the patio was packed. We decided to eat inside because we thought it was chilly outside but with all the fans and the breeze through the window I think it was chillier inside. Next time we would eat on the patio.
