Roy's is a great restaurant. Just like on the mainland, they have consistently good food. It is a very, very busy location still, we received great service and great food!

We got there prompty at 5pm and they had just opened the doors. Our table was inside but on the water with a great view. You can split the salads here and we had the fresh greens. I had the Salmon and it was grilled just perfect and wife had the Black and Blue Ahi Tuna. Both were great. The service here is the best, with teams taking care of water, tea, wine, or bringing the entree's. I had the coconut dessert and it was perfect. The House Roy's Chardonnay was better than most other white wines. Our server was the cutest Hawaiian girl who had a great physique and looked like either a weight lifter or exotic dancer as her second job. She was most impressive. You will have to get reservations to eat here. Try any of the fish entee's and split when necessary to keep the bill down. Skip the Mai Tai's as they are weak, but order wine, if so inclined. If staying at the Marriott or the Hilton, this is a must walk to.

Make reservations EARLY or you will not get in before 9 pm! Food quality is excellent, service was exceptional. We were told by our tour guides to get many appetizers ( for 2 diners) to share rather than single entrees,,, you can sample more delicious items from the menu for about the same cost.

We have been maybe five times so here's the first bad bit. It's chaotic. Every time we book for 7 o'clock and count it a miracle if they get us to a seat before 7.15. It hasn't happened yet. Secondly, it's deafeningly loud but that's part of their persona. They want to create the impression of a bustling, vibrant, happening place. A third possible downside can be a waiter who appears to want you out of there as quickly as possible. It's all rush. The good news on this visit was that the waiter was simply excellent. When we said we wanted to take our time he was the model of discretion. The food is not cheap but what they do they do well. Obviously the fish items are particularly good. This time I went with an ahi tuna worked in with chilli. It worked surprisingly well. She, not being much a fish lover, went with the duck but found it somewhat disappointing. For $85 a very nice Italian Barolo restored the balance. I have had the upside down cake in the past and it's well worth the publicity. This time it was my birthday and they did a lovely dessert complete with lighted candle with their compliments. In summary Roy's is always worth a visit. Noisy, busy but good food and a pretty good wine list. Service can vary but this time it was great. We would always go back even if our ears are still ringing three days later.

Roy's is in a shopping center across the street from the Waikoloa Marriott and down the road from many condo's as well as not too far from the very large Hilton complex. Reservations there are almost mandatory because of the large volume of tourists in the area eager to eat somewhere other than the same restaurant in their hotel (The restaurant in the Marriott is excellent as well). The service is great, and the fish specialtys are some of the best. The only fish that are not fresh and local are the butterfish, which are actually known as Sheepshead elsewhere. Not to take anything away from the butterfish dish, it is also great. The service is excellent as well. The restaurant is very pricey but worth a visit or two.
