My wife and I shared a late lunch there on our last trip to Hawaii. If you like Huggo's on the Rock in Kona you will enjoy the Lava Lava Beach Club. The fish was fresh and the drinks were to our liking. If you are planning for go for the sunset get there EARLY. Evenings seem to be quite busy there and parking is a little tight. The atmosphere was casual. Seating close to the beach is in the sun and maybe a little too casual with a lack of swimsuit coverups. We will be back the next time we visit the Big Island.

First, this restaurant is NOT located in the Queen Shops Mall; rather down the street, just a short drive. If you don't mind walking, you can do that as well either from the Shops or hotel area. There is ample parking for his restaurant; be sure to park in the restaurant area parking instead of public beach parking.
The restaurant is easily accessible and offers expansive views of the ocean and bay. What sets this restaurant apart from other restaurants in the area is the level of service and attention provided by a well-trained and enthusiastic staff.
Their 'Happy Hour' is fantastic; pupu (appetizer) offerings are diverse, fresh and their beverage prices are a bargain for the area. The actual menu offers just about anything from fresh seafood to locally sourced beef. Use of locally sourced fruits and vegetables adds to a well-rounded offering for any appetite. Some of their tap beers are also locally sourced from Big Island Micro-Breweries.
Check out the restaurant for their live talent that plays onstage in the sand in the evenings. Whether you choose to sit outside under a cabana or nestling your toes in the sand, the level and quality of talent is superb. On the particular night we dined at Lava Lava, one of our favorite local talents, Henry Kapono played a fantastic show, non-stop without breaks, with a great selection of tunes.
Lava Lava is a great destination; whether you've finished a round of golf and want a 'cold one' and some pupus, or a romantic evening with a special someone. While I have seen children at Lava Lava, my recommendation is find someone to watch the kids, put on a nice pair of shorts and collared shirt, and head to Lava Lava with someone special to watch the sunset and enjoy an evening of great food, service, and entertainment.

We didn't eat here but we have a great visit.
We snorkeled at the near-by beach, sea turtles abound.
They were so nice for letting us park there and use the shower, we came in for drinks.
beautiful open-air bar, friendly staff and fabulous drinks...don't remember what they were called but they were yummy.

Our moment of "zen"? Our waiter/bartender told us how to get to the best beach we saw on the whole trip...located in a gated community (who'd think they let us in?), well kept, pristine and sparkling. The best of our snorkling all week!

When on the big island you owe it to yourself to go here at sunset!
More on the great food in a minute...;)
Now, for your FREE amazing sunset show, follow directions below:
Walk past the hostess desk and around to the beach side of the building, all the wicker furniture on the beach is up for grabs. Take your seat, waitress soon appears. Order Hawaiian drink of choice, take in sunset majesty. Most nights they have local Hawaiian musician. It's quite nice, don't forget your camera.
Let friendly waitress know you'd like to have dinner, can she help you with that.
Go "inside" (whole restaurant is open to the ocean!) when you are called.
Varied menu in restaurant, but you can't go wrong with local fresh fish special of the day.
After dinner:
"A" bay beach (nickname for amazingly long named bay) is right next door, perfect time at night take your significant other over for a short stroll to sit on the (now) unoccupied lounge chairs, breathe in the stars and sounds of the ocean. Sublime if you let it in.
During the day, with its close proximity to "A" bay, easy option for lunch.
Ok, I haven't really talked about the food yet, so here goes. In researching this review I found that my mouth actually began to water remembering:
-Maui Onion Rings
-Standing Ahi Nachos
-Macadamia encrusted fresh catch
And lest I forget, the Mai Tai is top notch!
One day my wife and I were enjoying another sunset here, and had the pleasure of watching two weddings on an adjacent garden area, was just great! We always left happy and satisfied with our experience, I think you will too!

We would usually end our day of sunbathing at this restaurant. It is a beautiful location to watch the turtles sunbathe on the beach and of course the amazing sunset. At times we were still in our beach gear and that was not an issue. Lots of people would come for dinner and enjoy the sunset. The entertainment made this place special too. It was easy to relax here; nice casual environment.
