“Sunset cocktails”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

A welcome spot on the ocean with big drinks, open beach side seats but crowded since the other. Main tables are kept for dining. Happy hour till 5 pm and good appetizers. Tuna Tataki nachos were delightful bites and Mai Ti' s with Big Wave beer a hit. Best if your group is 4 or less based on table sizes.

“Incredible food, on the beach”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

This beach restaurant just opened in July. You can sit right on the beach or back a little further in the restaurant. My husband, friend and I had happy hour one night and dinner the next night. All of the meals were excellent!! We had the fresh catch (Ahi), Mahi Mahi, and Opa. Seriously delicious! It's a little pricey, but the service was great, ambiance perfect and it was a special dinner! They also have live music which is fun! The restaurant noted Gluten Free and Vegetarian meals on the menu. Total gem!!

“Wanted to love this place”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

We had a great lunch here! We were worried, given the other reviews here and another site, but the concierge at HGVC had recommended it so we decided to try it. The service was very good. My Fresh Off the Boat (FOB) sandwich was excellent and cooked perfectly (Ahi). My husband had the Kalua pork sandwich and was equally impressed. The only misstep was the sweet potato fries, which were soggy. We liked this place enough that we made dinner reservations.

Our dinner experience was not nearly as good, I am sorry to say. The service was good but a bit overbearing...it was clear they wanted us to order, eat and leave so they could turn the table. We had called that afternoon to ask what the corkage fee was and were told $15. we brought a bottle of very nice Oregon pinot noir. They only have pastic wine glasses which was a disappointment, but they have ot trained the wait staff at all in proer wine service. The waitress opened the bottle and poured two full glasses...and that was the last we ever saw of her until the bill arrived. We poured our own wine. We ordered a spinugula salad (spinach and arugula) salad to split because that is what our waitress suggested. they brought two plates, then a busboy plopped down the bowl of salad in front of me. We had to split our own salad. Our entrees were quite good although the rib eye was more medium rare than the rare my husband had ordered.

When we got the bill the corkage charge was $20 instead of the $15 we had been told. I mentioned that on the way out and after some consultation with "the manager" was told that the price used to be $15 but was raised to $20 on Jan. 1. The one of the hostesses said in a rather rude and condescending tone "do you want the $5 back?" I declined and we left, never to return.

I have no objection to paying a corkage fee; I have no objection to being charged a $20 corkage; but i do object to paying for a service that is not delivered. And a corkage fee is for a service...the wine service. The staff should be trained accordingly. The Lava Lava Beach Club is priced like a high-end restaurant and the food aspires to a high-end restaurant, but the service is pure beach club. The location is lovely and I would recommend it for a cocktail at sunset, but I do not recommend it for dinner.

“Terrific Experience!!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

We stopped at Lava Lava for lunch on the last day of our honeymoon completely by chance and what a gem! We had a great experience with scrumptious food, cold beach drinks and a lovely beach setting. We were promptly greeted by manager Lea - a nice touch. Loved our wait staff Loa and Jason - both personable and made lunch fun. Service was timely and prices right in line with other restaurants in the area. We shared a yummy turkey club panini and humongous chicken salad, which were both delicious. When Lea learned it was our honeymoon she sent us a complimentary glass of champagne - nice way to toast the end of our vacation, along with a simply spectacular chocolate banana dessert!! We loved the entire experience and will definitely visit on our next trip. Thanks to all!!

“Christmas dinner”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

We went to Lava Lava for Christmas Dinner. Neat to eat on the beach, food was good - perhaps a bit pricey but good food. Service was average. Nice relaxed atmosphere, able to sit on sand close to ocean so is a neat experience.
