“Casual, Oceanfront Restaurant & Bar”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

The location alone is worth visiting the Lava Lava Beach Club. It is located oceanfront adjacent to the mega resorts in Waikaloa on the Big Island of Hawai'i. The day we chose to visit it was rather windy so we opted to dine inside but since the restaurant is open-air, it was still breezy. Apart from that, the service was great, the food was innovative and delicious, and as mentioned earlier, the location is worth a visit. This is an ideal setting to witness one of those famous Hawaiian sunsets. In the evenings there is live entertainment also. Give the Lava Lava Beach Club a try - you won't regret it!

“Nice location on A-Bay”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

Frankly, I think this place is over-rated. Good location for your happy hour drinks, but the menu is limited at happy hour and the food isn't that great. It's also expensive. The reason to go here is to enjoy staring at the Ocean after a long day snorkeling, swimming or sightseeing.

“We Love Lava Lava!”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

There are great restaurants all over the Hawaiian islands in idyllic settings that stay with you forever. But, Lava Lava stands out as one of the most enjoyable, relaxing, scrumptiously rewarding restaurant experiences we have ever had! Why? The primary reason is the people. From the attentive and friendly wait staff to the bartender, we were made to feel like royalty from the moment we arrived. We decided to walk past the clean, well decorated covered dining / bar area when we were invited by our hostess to come down to the beach where comfortable cushy wicker couches and chairs awaited us. As I dug my feet into the warm sand and looked out over the beautiful bay, I browsed a menu filled with delights of every kind. We started the ahi poke appetizer. OMG! Sooo fresh, this yellowfin tuna was probably caught that day and the subtle citrus sauce that accompanied it was the perfect complement. As I imbibed my delicious Mai Tai, (the house specialty) and this amazing appetizer, I watched the sun begin its descent into the blue pacific. This is the kind of honeymoon experience I was hoping for -total Bliss! We sampled a number of other appetizers (and more Mai Tais) as Hawaiian music, mixed with some Jimmy Buffet, America and James Taylor songs from a solo singer with acoustic guitar wafted across the sand. Then, a beautiful Hawaiian lady in full hula attire walked out and offered all the young ladies free hula lessons. What a great idea! A delightful group of girls ranging in age from about 6 to 18 came out on the beach and were swaying to the sweet sounds of traditional Hawaiian music. We watched their silhouettes move to the sounds with the backdrop of the palms, the ocean and the sunset. I don’t' ever remember being this relaxed in my entire life! As we walked to our car past the tiki torches, we both decided we would come back for dinner and drinks the next night. Lava Lava is a perfect place for all ages. Not too tame for singles, perfect for couples and very accommodating for families with children. My compliments to the owners and managers of this Big Island jewel.

“Lava Lava is the perfect spot to watch the sunset”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

As a home owner at Waikoloa Beach Resort I have been watching sunsets in A Bay for 25 years.
Now there is a restaurant Bar with beach seating to enjoy amazing sunsets while enjoying a Mai tai or a draft Longboard. Pupus were ok, but drinks and view amazing. Lava lava provides exactly the ambiance you would hope for in Hawaii.

“Location is the only recent this isn't a One.”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Fantastic location and awsome view is the only positive for this operation. I have given the restaurant time to mature as it only opened a few months ago but food quality and service is still lacking to be kind. There seems to be more than enough staff but everyone runs around like it is packed and you will see very few smiles so I can only assume it is poorly managed.
I had a chicken sandwich at lunch and the piece of chicken only filled half the bread. The edamame I had for happy hour another time was over cooked so it was soggy. In Hawaii you need to chill even the red wines but whatever storage method they use here the wine is served beyond warm. Yuk. Considering this is the same people who operate Huggo's in Kona it is amazing at how poor the food and service is with he only comparable being the prices. You will not get out of here cheap.
If you go, go for the view at happy hour sunset, order some drinks and go elsewhere for dinner.
