“Management at Marriott is the most irresponsible management.”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

Management at Marriott is the most irresponsible management i have seen in any hotel.

I had booked a stay with this hotel and i regret staying in this hotel.
- The rooms in the hotels even if they look nice are not functional.

- The intercom in my room was non functional and right after checkin i informed the front desk. Now if you need to speak with front desk you have to go down as the intercom is not working. So after a tiring journey i had to go down and complain. The response to the complaint was the most stupid response i have ever heard ever. They said they have some person who will come in the morning 10.00 am who would do the rearrangements of the room and we will allocate a room the next day. So the hotel manager Annet is telling us that she cant do room arrangements as she doesnt have the power to do it ? seriously ?

- Now for the entire next day i never heard back from anyone about my new room status and every time we had to walk to front desk or concierge to inquire anything or get any room service even.

- the next day the management stepped up there lying ability. When inquired about the status of the room they said they had left a voicemail on my wife's number. Now that is a pure lie which annet cooked up as the number which they said they called even does not have a voice mail facility turned on , so one one can leave me a message , but still the management says they left me a message. That point i understood how unethical the management team is here.

- The room cleaning service is also so crappy, except for the bed none of the room was cleaned and maintained.

Before this trip i was thinking in enrolling in Marriott rewards , but i changed my mind. Starwood preferred guest is much responsible and ethical compared to Marriott. And if some one is thinking between the two i would say get starwood any time.

Room Tip: do not stay in this hotel, go to hilton next door.

I loved rooms space, small bathroom though, amazing beach and peace and quiet.
Breakfast is not included but a good price performance. They have free wi-fi :)

The rooms are spacious and see if you could get a room with a sea veiw, it really is nice and calming.

We recently spent 9 days at the Marriott Waikoloa and had a great time. The hotel is located on a nice beach and is located next to the King's Shops and the Queen's Marketplace, which is very convenient. There are several restaurant's within walking distance, as well as the Island Market grocery store.

The rooms were nice, although nothing exceptional, but I did not see some of the complaints that others have listed, so I must assume that there are just some people that cannot be pleased. The breakfast and dinners were excellent and the service in the restaurant was great. The only complaint that I have is that the pool service was somewhat lacking, as often times we would not see a waitress for more than an hour, and the pool area was not that big.

The pools were nice and not too crowded, but there was also a large convention on the property during the week, so many of the people may have been in meetings.

I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who is looking to stay in the Waikoloa area, as we had a great time at this hotel.

The location of the hotel was very nice, away from the town but close to shopping in the village area. Rooms are just okay, on the small side, not much in way of views. The only thing that was memorable was the concierge desk. In my opinion, they were the only ones at this property that seemed to care or appriciate your business. The Wifi was also a major problem and kept going out. The island and local attractions are unforgettable, the hotel is easily forgettable. I would only book this property again if I was getting a really good rate, there are a lot of other properties nearby that are nicer.

We arrived early Monday morning and greeted by Beau at the desk. Our room was not ready and they offers to hold our luggage and a hospitality room to change. We checked in around 3 to a very nice ocean view room. Later we received a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries as a anniversary gift from the staff. Our entire week was perfect. Pool staff attentive and the breakfast on the balcony was perfect. The coffee stand off the lobby is a great option for Kona coffee and great pastries and fruit. From start to finish the staff was professional and helpful. The room was well maintained and pull down service at night. This is a great location on the Big Island and the shops and restaurants in the area are all a short walk away. It is conveniently located about 1/2 hour from airport and easy to go to any tourist area. We used the Waikoloa Diving Charter, right off the beach at the hotel and enjoyed the pool and beach. Great job Waikoloa staff and thanks for all the great memories.

In evaluated resort options, I chose Marriott based on what I thought was a good balance between budget and amenities/property. In hindsight, I think my choice was right about where I thought it would be. When reviewing comments I thought this property fit in between the lower end hotels in Kona and the higher end ones such as Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea. Having visited the aforementioned, as well as the Fairmont, I can conclude that the Marriott is clearly inferior, but again, so is the price. The Marriott is probably close to the Hilton overall with the Hilton being a large sprawling complex. If I had a large family I think the Hilton would have been a better choice. The Marriott is also better than Kona hotels in my opinion. But if you like the hustle/bustle of being downtown and night life (if there is any at all) then you should save your money and stay at a hotel downtown. Having written all that, the Marriott was ok. Public areas were ok. Rooms were a little dated...and carpet was pretty bad everywhere. But beds were comfortable and the pool area/beach access was pretty good. Access to local shopping was superior with this property over the other 4 star choices. You get what you pay for with the higher end resorts, you just have to decide if the extra money in your budget is worth it. For me, I spent most of my time off property exploring Hawaii and found the Marriott a fair priced, dependable home base for the week with the appropriate relaxing amenities/conveniences.

Room Tip: Personally, I would rather face away from the pool to gain more peace. But I had a unit facing the...

Stayed here for 6 nights during a recent group business meeting. Overall the word acceptable comes to mind. Although full the common areas did not seem crowded at all. The servers were all very attentive and personable at the group events.

My reasons for a middle rating are: rooms, could have been any Marriott Stateside (and dated), buffet meals were so-so...certainly edible but not spectacular.

The wifi (and support) was completely unacceptable. Sporadic at best and even after spending over 1 hour on the phone with their tech support nothing came from it. Ironically, the next morning there was a planned wifi update that did not show any noticeable improvement. Oh well I guess you go to Hawaii NOT to work on your computer in your room. Bleah.
