“Perfect Honeymoon Hotel...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

My wife and I stayed here for our delayed honeymoon in 2008. The location is great with a clean sandy beach and plenty of free snorkeling equipment. Restaurants were OK but nothing special. Service was above average but the front desk can be a bit more friendly. The hotel has a laua show where you need to pay for the food but you can enjoy the show from a longer distance for free. The best part of the hotel was the pool and free mai tais :)

My wife and I spent 10 days in this hotel. The beach front room upgrade was totally worth it - seeing the sun set over the ocean was magical. The staff were extremely friendly and always eager to make us comfortable. The location is great, with a great beach (just bring water shoes!) and the hotel is a good size (not too big, not too small). The breakfast buffet was excellent. We went on an Ocean Sports whale watching trip through the hotel, and it was terrific!

Room Tip: Get an ocean front or ocean view upgrade to make the trip extra special.

Green Features: This hotel is not overtly environmentally friendly. We made sure to minimize our impact by only having the room cleaned every three days or so.

In the Waikola Beach area is a great location for a hotel. The area has a few hotels, 2 golf courses and 2 shopping centers about 18 miles north of the airport.

Upon check in staff was friendly and good wait staff. Rooms clean and modern with the exceptions of the showers. But a nice clean and comfortable feel.

The shopping centers are within walking distance or there is a shuttle for $2.

overall nice stay with exception of the last day, rude/slow service in the Hawaii Call Restaurant and front desk when checking out when asking for a hospitality room, but overall pleasant stay.

It was September 2012.
It took a long way and long time to arrive in Hawaii. But it was worthy. I wouldn’t forget this trip.
We stayed in this hotel for a week.
The first impression was that the reception didn’t know how to smile. LOL
The room was good, clean. It had nice views. The breakfasts were average. We paid the breakfast separately.
The hotel was in the quite, elegant area. Nice views. I don’t know what to comment. Just enjoy by yourself. Everywhere was beautiful…Green....
They have a special dinner with traditional Hawaiian dancing, sun set view. I forget the name of this dinner show.
It was one year ago. I forget the detail, but I am sure that you will like it.

Room Tip: I didn't have a problem with the room. It had a good view. Clean.

This resort has everything - shops nearby, a good bar and restaurant in the hotel - the staff were all smiley, professional and so very helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble regardless of the time of day or night.
If you want to see the Island, rent a car, this part of the Island is the sunny part and there is little else at this part (Waikoloa) of the Island apart from the resort. A taxi from the airport is $65.
The landscape of this part of the Island is amazing - volcanic rock with bits of grasses sprouting out of it here and there - It is so different to the other Islands, great in its own way. We finished a 4 Island trip here and if we did it again the only thing we would change would be this would be our first Island. Visit the big Island it is stunning

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view of you can. You'll get to see the beach too.

Just got back from vacation on the Big Island. This Marriott is about 30 minutes from the Kailua-kona airport. The hotel has spacious rooms with a nice bathroom setup, the toilet and bathtub/shower are separated from the sink area so it is nice for a couple. The rooms all have a small fridge as well. Within easy walking distance are many shops and restaurants. There is a Whalers Shop close by which is a small convenience store selling food and alcohol, plus other souvenir type items at reasonable prices. If you have never been to Hawaii, prices are high on almost everything compared to the mainland. The hotel fronts a beautiful beach/bay area. The locals call it A-Bay. There are beach chairs set up for hotel patrons to use. The beach is a short walk down from the hotel pool area. All beaches on the islands are public so there is a mix of locals and hotel guests. On the beach there is a small snack shack where you can get sandwiches and sodas, cash only. There is also a water activity center where one can rent kayaks, paddle boards etc and also set up just about any kind of water activity you can think of ie snorkeling, scuba, sunset cruises, whale watching etc. The prices are similar to those of other activity centers but so convenient right there at the hotel. On certain days of the week they run a special for $30 pp.It runs from 10 am to 2 pm on special days so be sure to ask about it. The restaurant at the the hotel has great food. Check for specials when you get in. We enjoyed half price entrees on Monday and Thursday night when we were there. Portions are large. They also have a happy hour from 3 to 6pm daily. There are many specials and happy hours at just about all the restaurants on the island. Make sure to inquire beforehand at any restaurant. If you are not planning on doing a lot of travel around the island, a car rental would not be necessary since so much is at the hotel or close to the hotel. They do have a Hertz car rental at the hotel if you needed it for a day or two. Car rentals can also be pricey on the island. The service at the hotel was very good . The room were immaculate as well as the public areas. If you enjoy a good coffee, there is also a nice coffee shop near the main lobby with fresh fruit and small breakfast items. This is a wonderful property for friends, families, romance and just a couples getaway.

Room Tip: We stayed in a garden view room. Had a balcony and a nice view and was quiet. Poolside rooms could b...

We stayed here four days and really enjoyed the visit. I would have liked a little microwave in the room, but managed to live without it. The only really awful thing was the internet--completely useless. I ended up using my Verizon data plan the whole time. We did not eat at the hotel restaurants. From our experience at Marriotts on other islands, the hotel restaurants are not known for wonderful food at a good price--they are just convenient. The concierge was excellent, very enthusiastic and full of good tips. I only disagreed with her in one instance, a highly rated restaurant that did not meet expectations. The tours suggested are rather expensive, but I am glad we did them as first-time Big Island visitors. In one case, the tour spent the whole time on private property, which we certainly could not have done ourselves. In any case, I would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Beach front, obviously.

Green Features: Like almost every other hotel these days, signs encourage you to re-use towels, but they provide just one towel rack. I think if hotels are serious about being green, two or three towel racks should be there.
