“Beautiful Location, Comfortable Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

We stayed at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa during our vacation to the Big Island. The location was absolutely perfect! Safe swimming beach, stunning grounds, and convenient access to shopping.

Our room was an ocean view--quite far from the ocean but close enough to watch the sunset through the palm trees. The room was clean and quiet with a nice lanai to enjoy the view. The hotel itself is clean and the staff were amazing in terms of friendliness and service.

The restaurant is pleasant and open to the ocean breeze, although we found the food and drinks to be quite pricey. Most days we picked up sushi and other goodies from the local market in Waikoloa. The Macaroni Grill in town is also a fantastic restaurant.

Just north of the hotel (about a 5 minute drive) there is a beautiful snorkeling beach near the Mauna Lani Resort. It is a bit of a hike from the parking area but well worth it. You can rent snorkeling equipment at Snorkel Bob's on the way.

In short, the location of this hotel made everything easy for us! We would stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott again and would recommend it to other travellers.

Just back from a one week stay at the Marriott Waikoloa. We booked here because there was a 1/2 price offer on a travel sight. We also knew that though it was not the HIlton, it would meet our children's needs to swim and be near the beach.

For a family traveling with 2 children, The Marriott Waikoloa exceeded our expectations for the listed room price. It also served us well as a base camp from which to explore the rest of the Big Island. The Marriott was recently updated, yet mains a nice open feel of the original design. They staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly, making great suggestions for trips off the beaten path- beyond where most tourists wander.

Pros: Picture perfect scenery. On the beach access, pools and water slide- family friendly. An Ocean Sports on sight to rent paddle boards, snorkels and take a glass bottom boat rides. Shopping Centers within walking distance with restaurants and shops including a Macy's and other "up market" stores. Nice staff. Near petroglyphs and Kings road. Really comfortable beds! And a spa..should you need it.

Cons: The Marriott is part of a larger property development and can feel like you are in an insulated theme park after awhile. The restaurants are pretty mediocre for the pricing of food.
While we were there there seemed to be endless cigarette smokers and the odor permeated everywhere.

Definitely stay again.

Room Tip: If you are with younger children- ask for a larger room over-looking the pool

Nice grounds with multiple pools. Short walk to a nice beach on property grounds. Restaurant was overpriced, but many nights they had specials with discounts which did make prices reasonable. OK room, but dated. It's been a while since I have been in a room that did not have a flat screen TV! It does appear that they are in the process of renovating. View was mediocre, but in fairness to hotel, I did not pay for ocean front room. I did ask for an upgrade but was told none were available. Hotel did not seem full, but perhaps many rooms were unavailable due to renovations.

We booked this hotel through American Express travel and everything was perfect. Received a wonderful room with an ocean view balcony where we could watch the sunset every night although there are many other phenomenal areas to watch the sunset throughout the property. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were appointed nicely. The staff was amazing, everyone extremely friendly and helpful. Special shout out to the valet, bell hop, front desk and bartenders!

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean front balcony on the 4th floor or higher to get the best views of the sunset.

We came in with a group of 8 and were booked into 4 rooms all over the hotel. 2 rooms were right in the the center of the hotel and my son did say that there were people around the pool really late, which woke up guests with rooms right by the pool. The hotel did however, take care of it as soon as they were advised and broke up the group and sent them on their way. The pool was very busy throughout the day. The beach was not as busy. Others in our group said that there was quite an under toe but, they did see a turtle and some rays while snorkeling there. Only one restaurant (pricey) but I would recommend their coconut cocktail-YUM! Buffet was as expected. My room did not have an oceanview, but had a very nice garden view and felt secluded and cozy. We spent a lot of time on our veranda relaxing. We did have to call for a microwave, but it was delivered to the room once we asked for one. We used this mainly as a base for the group. We did things everyday in Kona and absolutely loved the island. This hotel was comfortable and located in a good spot for someone with a car planning to see the sights and do the tours.

I am so glad we picked the Marriott for our stay during Ironman 70.3. It was less stuffy than the fancy Fairmont Orchid and less insane than the theme-park-like Hilton. The grounds were beautiful, and the pools were lovely. There is one tame slide for the kids. (wish they had some kids activities). It is very convenient for walking to the market and stores right across the street.

The rental equipment at the beach is crazy expensive- but one day they had a "$25 from 10-2" special when you could use any of the toys during that time block. My kids took full advantage and used it all- paddle boards, boogie boards, kayaks, glass-bottom boat, etc.

The resort is in a beautiful setting. I had an ocean view room, it didn't disappoint. The restaurant prices were very high. Across the street was the King Shops that had good alternatives. Take advantage of the trolley that goes to the Queens Shops for more affordable options.
