“great snorkeling”

recommend to take the glass bottom boat but take the early one at 9 or 915 before the current and wind make water murky

“Poor visibility but calm”

I was underwhelmed by A-Bay. Much prettier beaches along the Kohala Coast...so do explore. Good for keiki and nice accommodation nearby.

“Nice Sunset, But That Is About All”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice beach, but compared to Manini'owali or Makalawena, it is just not in the same league. It has tan sand that is a bit coarse, and the surf the evening we visited was much rougher that the other beaches. Plus, the water seemed murky by comparison to Manini'owali's beautifully clear blue hue. We did have a lovely sunset, but didn't spend much time in the water.

“Picturesque!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

Ok, so I am a little biased in that Anaehoomalu was the location of my 2005 wedding. It is still a beautiful location that is not to be missed, however, I am a little disappointed that there is now a fish restaurant on the south end of the bay, which used to be a beautiful park. The King's fishpond is still there, and the rest of the bay is beautiful.........some of the most picturesque sunsets you will ever see!

“Free Chairs and Beautiful View!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

A-bay is a white sand treat. And also one of the few nice beaches to provide lounge chairs for all visitors, not just resort guests. But there aren't many of them, so get there early. Also there's not much shade. For that reason, we brought Sportbrella chairs with us -- chairs that have umbrellas attached. Bad idea. The Hawaiian trade winds snapped those umbrellas off before we could open a good book and get comfy. However, early risers will find empty chairs under palm trees. Another bonus: A nice public restroom.

Don't forget to eat at the nearby Lava Lava Beach Club, too -- a great chill experience.
