“Gorgeous modern room”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

We stayed here on our honeymoon and loved it. Our room was in one of the newer buildings, but none of the buildings looked old. The décor in the room was absolutely gorgeous, with a modern look. We had a kitchen, washer/dryer, and balcony, and they have complementary DVD rentals on the bottom floor of each building. The pools at Kings' Land were great, with a sandy beach pool and slide for kids, and an adult pool on the other side for a quieter experience. The waterfalls at the pool provided a pleasant backdrop for relaxing by the pool. They had fresh ice cold water out during the day, and the happy hour at the bar was great for early evenings. Our only complaint about the bar and restaurant was that it closed at 6pm and the next closest bar was way beyond walking distance since the property is about a mile and a half from the commercial areas near the shore. However, they do have a shuttle that takes you to the larger Hilton Village area and back, which makes a loop every 30 minutes. Kings' Land is the furthest location from the shoreline in the Hilton family of properties at Waikoloa, but the landscaping was amazing and it seemed like the pool/bar/lobby had a higher attention to detail in keeping with the Hawaiian theme. It was also quieter and less crowded than the larger Village area.

As a guest at Kings' Land, you have access to everything at the Village, where you can see dolphins at their dolphin encounter, sea turtles and fish in their lagoon, and rent cabanas, paddle boards, pool toys, etc. for use in the lagoon or the large pool. There were a large number of lounge chairs available on a first come, first serve basis that either faced the ocean or the pool. Also, the Lagoon Grill near the dolphins was a great (though pricey) place for lunch.

We stayed at Kings Land through a timeshare offer during spring break.

We arrived early, hit Costco and then headed to the hotel. Our room was not ready but they told us to go ahead and use the pools and they would store our things while we played. The valets were fantastic and not only stored our food but delivered it all to the room and put it in the fridge.

The pool area looks small but didn't ever feel crowded. They have 4 waterslides, 2 of which were really good. Strangely you cannot swim the length of the pools. You have to get out and walk at certain spots. They also have an adult pool which looked lovely. The slides do close fairly early but the pools are open till 10. They also had a kids activity (like bowling) the day we arrived, and Easter egg hunt with the Easter Bunny and an hilarious Honu (rubber sea turtle) race in the pools on Easter. Unfortunately they didn't account for current with the slides and some poor people working there had to jump in and try to corral the honus.

The rooms were fabulous. 2 bathroom, 2 bedroom with a kitchen and living area inside and couch, chair and table outside. We also used the bbq which was right outside our room on several occasions. The only think I didn't like about the room was the open concept master bath with almost see through glass between the toilet and shower. No one needs to know another human being that well.

We met with a concierge who helped us plan our trips out (surfing, bodyglove snorkel tour and zipline) and was extremely helpful. I think her name was Kyla. We did sit through the timeshare presentation which was fine. Having been through a six hour ordeal for one in Mexico this was a piece of cake. I don't know if it was because they were so busy but they gave us the speil, offered 1 number, we said no and out the door we went. I was bummed they didn't even show us the "bonus points" for buying that day.

The bistro was ok for a snack the day we arrived but was pretty bad for breakfast. Good thing we had a buy one get one coupon.

We had no problem with the shuttle to/from the main hotel (we did wait for it but it was on schedule).

Overall everyone was extremely pleasant to deal with. I left my diamond earrings there, called on the way to the airport and they fed exed them to me. I really can't say enough about the staff at King's Land.

We had a wonderful time at King's Land and on the Big Island. The only thing we would change is to stay longer next time.

My wife and I stayed for one week to celebrate my 50th birthday in February. The Kings Land is a beautiful and quiet location nearby the other Waikaloa area resorts and town centers. A shuttle runs frequently to the Kings and the Queens areas as well as the Hilton Grand Waikoloa, which is as "over-the-top" of a resort as I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot!). It was a pleasure in the evening to return to the gentler Kings Land environment.

It is a new complex, multiple buildings with ample parking set across from a golf course. The room was immaculate and the grounds very well-maintained. There is a central area with multiple activity centers and huge swimming pools. Concierge was helpful, no particular great or disappointing experiences with hotel staff.

The only thing I missed was not being on the ocean, however there are so many excellent beaches and snorkel spots around the Big Island that we spent several days exploring. There is also the "A" beach nearby as well as the Marriott which seemed to be best-situated from this perspective of the Waikoloa resorts.

Realize that this is a Hilton Grand Vacation Club timeshare resort (I am an owner) so the typical rules apply regarding housekeeping and the like. I plan to return in a couple years.

The Kingsland by HGVC is an excellent property about a mile away from the ocean and some 20 miles or so from Kona. The rooms are large, clean, and well-appointed. The property is very well-mainatined and the staff is friendly and accomodating. It has a spectacular pool and water area that seems better than the pools and water features at the main Hilton resort (which you have shuttle access to).

Because of the location at Waikoloa, my recommendation would be to definitely have a rental car and plan to pick up groceries and other incidentals at Kona before driving to the resort. The prices and selection at the Kona stores (Costco, Target, Walmart, Safeway) are much better and the full size refrigerators in the Kingsland units will likley hold a weeks worth of food.

Just a comment about the weather and this location. We stayed at this property during the February trade-wind season. While we have visited Hawaii during February several other years, the trade-winds seemed to be very powerful at this location in 2013. It is located on flat lava ground downslope from Mauna Kea, which likely increased the wind velocity. It was actually humorous to watch the golfers trying to hit their balls into the wind only to have them literally blow back behind them.

We feel that the timeshare we have at HILTON (HGC) charges we have when we did our own calculations totals up to the normal stay per night. We may find better deals at the travel agencies or other website online services whether it's at the HILTON or same class hotels.

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village down the road last year and knew we wanted to return for spring break this year with our 4 kids (ages 10-17). While I was there, I walked down the road one morning and saw this property and knew it would be great so that's how we ended up here.

We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in room #22101, which we were initially disappointed about because it's across the street, but it was the first room on the lower level and worked out great. There are many different types of room configurations--ours was a king and large bath in one room, 2 double beds in the 2nd room with a bathroom out in the hall and a pullout couch. (We used that one night when we had a restless sleeper and he wanted his own space and it was fine.) The room was new and tastefully decorated and had everything we needed in the kitchen. We stayed 8 nights and cooked 5 nights in the room and I never needed anything. We used the grills that were right outside our room with no wait.

With 6 people and only 1 mid-week maid service, we ended up calling housekeeping every day for various things--garbage pick up, more towels, extra blankets, and they were super accommodating.

We were on the island to explore and rented a van, so we only ended up staying on property for 1 afternoon. Our children enjoyed the pool, slides and volleyball. The restaurant had great burgers and pizza, but they are only open until 6 pm, which is why I needed to cook several evenings. We did eat at Merrimans one night, but there really aren't a lot of options in Waikoloa with kids. Tip--it was a pain, but stop at Walmart and Safeway in Kona before you drive to Waikoloa. We stocked up right when we got off the plane and although our kids were anxious to get going, prices and selection were way better and we only had to go to the local store in Waikoloa for incidentals.

If you stay here and want to go to the beach, rent a vehicle. We enjoyed Kua Bay, Kauna'oa beach for snorkeling, Hapuna for boogie boarding and our favorite was the beach at Mauna Lani for playing in the sand and boogie boarding at sunset. We also spent 2 afternoons at the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort where my kids paddle boarded and snorkeled in the lagoon. You can get a free parking pass to go there for the day or there is a shuttle service even though we didn't use that. Use your Kingsland pass to get towels once you are there. You do have to return them to the same place or there is a $35 charge, so that was kind of a pain to keep track of all my kids towels. You don't have to keep track of towels at Kingsland property like that.

The catch with this place if you aren't a Hilton vacation owner is that you have to sit through a 3 hour high pressure sales pitch. We are actually interested in Hilton, but would only buy in the secondary market because it's so much cheaper. The guys were nice, just too high pressure for me and it was a waste of 3 hours.

We would return and stay here again--we loved the Big Island! But, I don't think we can because we've already done the sales pitch, so we will probably rent a villa at Mauna Lani next time. Our kids loved the beach there.

Room Tip: They have different "levels" of ownership, so I don't think non-owners get the best ro...

The pool is amazing for families with older and younger kids. Protected from the wind. Can use the Hilton Wikaloa's pools as well. Simple but good grill restaurant and bar near the pool area.

Rooms were very comfortable with great kitchens and washer/dryers. Loved the bathroom. No gorgeous views at this hotel, but with kids we were never in the room for long.

Hotel's staff were terrific. Free class and events every day for kids and adults. Hula performance was great -- saved us having to go to a luau.

Easy drives to Hapuna and Mauna Kea beaches and so many things to do right in the Wikaloa area.

Room Tip: We had the Jr. One Bedroom and it slept two adults and two kids just fine.
