We stayed four nights in this beautiful B&B . Very clean and super friendly owners. Perfect located for excursations to the vulcano area. We saw many B&B's in the last years but this one is defenetly the finest until now! I can recomend this place with a very good feeling.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Ohia forest cottage and it was just perfect. It is so quiet, all you can hear is the birds during the day and the frogs at night. Garret gave us excellents advices on what to do in the park and the cottage is a short drive to the park's entrance. The cottage is very clean and the breakfast is delicious and lots of it. We highly recommend the Volcano country cottages.

I stayed here for three nights on a two week honeymoon trip to Hawaii. We had been on Kauai at a large resort and had ended our trip in Kona at a large resort.
This was the unexpected jewel in the middle of the trip. We enjoyed having the peace and quiet of this cabin between our two resort stays. The location is perfect, the owners are incredibly helpful and at the same time, very respectful of maintenaing your privacy. and in the woods experience. I would very much recommend these Cottages for anyone who is looking to be away in a lush forest setting minutes from the Park. We were very glad to have the three days

I found Volcano Country Cottages through the alternativehawaii.com website. My husband and I were looking for something other than the usual hotel, we wanted to feel the real Hawaii experience. And I believe we did with our stay here.

Garrett and Sandy Gooding were very helpful and friendly hosts/owners. Garrett pointed out some great area hikes that were a great addition to our trip. Our cottage was the newest addition to the compound, there are several other cottages all nicely spaced with lots of green surrounding, so you never noticed anyone around, but all the cottages were booked during our stay! Breakfast was left in the cottages while we were out exploring for the day. Fresh fruit, eggs and a great variety of homemade breads. Sharky's coffee freshly ground awaited us in the freezer too! It was great to have the breakfasts, so much food for two we usually never wanted lunch. Great fuel for hikes in Volcano park, that's for sure. (great money saver too!)

There is an excellent Thai restaurant within a short walking distance from the cottage, for dinners, but you have a full kitchen and there are lots of stores to purchase supplies, so you can cook your own if you choose.

We didn't see any lava during our trip, but we had lots of fun exploring the Big Island, it's more than the Volcanos Park that's for sure! The highlight was a back country horseback ride in Waipo Valley and the coffee tours in Kona. Also the Botanical Garden is a must, I was skeptical, but it's so much more than flowers, it's amazingly beautiful, worth every penny!

Volcano Country Cottages was a perfect home base for our trip and the prices were excellent, (shh, it almost seemed too cheap for all that you got!) The most comfortable beds and the peace and quiet of the big Island...ah, we will be back! Don't book a hotel, when you could have the peace and tranquility of Volcano Country Cottages!!

  • Liked — Fresh Breakfasts (the fruit was always fresh and we had a different sweet bread everyday!) and how much like home the cottage felt.
  • Disliked — We only wish there were a private jacuzzi on the deck for more privacy than the shared one.

We really enjoyed our stay at VCC! We felt it was a great value, and it was very clean. The location is very tropical, lush and private feeling. The hosts are VERY nice and helpful--probably the best we've ever had.

  • Liked — The cottage was very nice, comforatble, and clean, and the surroundings were beautiful.
  • Disliked — I don't really think there is anything we didn't like.

We spent two nights at this cozy piece of paradise. There were four of us sharing the "artist cottage". Garret and Sandy Gooding were perfect hosts. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by both and shown to our two bedroom cottage with one bathroom and a kitchenette. The bedrooms were again to use the word "cozy" complete with warm bedding with a quilt for those chilly "Hilo" nights as well as comfy robes to wear when you walked down the fully lit pathway that leads you to a hot tub where you can relax after a full day of sight seeing at Volcano National Park which is just down the road from the cottages. Our room had an easel ready to use if we so inspired. Hence the "Artist Cottage"!
Garret showed us all around the lovely lush gardens that surround the cottages and was always ready to offer suggestions on various hikes to take or where to find a great meal if you don't feel like cooking in your well equipped kitchen. Every afternoon Sandy stocks your refridgerator with fresh ground coffee, milk, butter and home baked breads to enjoy the next morning before heading out for a full days activities.
Our brief stay at the cottages was truly the highlight of our trip to the Big Island.

Would absolutely recommend staying at the Volcano Country Cottages. Our family of 4 stayed 1 night in the Artist's House and was one of the highlights of our BI trip. Owners were extremely knowledgeable and helpful with advice on Volcano and Big Island. This is a quiet place to relax and enjoy the surroundings after a day of hiking and exploring. Thai Thai restaurant is just around the corner and short walk. If you like Thai food, this is one of the best we've ever had. Breakfast of fresh fruits, breads and eggs were a real treat.
