I stayed at this lodge one night in March with my adult daughter and friend. Our room had two twin beds and a futon which seemed perfect for us however the futon was rock hard. On the plus side, we had a fireplace, a small outside patio with seating, a refrigerator and large bathroom. Our room, #6, looked out on the backyard which was a very peaceful setting. It was recently renovated with nice touches like wooden blinds. The location was minutes from town and the VNP. The restaurant was super, both the complimentay breakfast and dinner.

Very, very close to Volcano National Park. The rooms are arranged in several lodges -- each with a common room that includes a seating area and a communal TV. Each room is different and has elements of Hawaiiana. Our room had a fireplace and balcony with a view of the lucious backyard. There is no AC, so be prepared to open your windows for ventilation. There is a heater in the BR, which is very welcome on a cold morning! The beds are comfortable but I wish that down pillows were offered instead of foam. Walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors if they speak in normal conversational tones. A hearty gourmet breakfast is included.

We had a lovely stay. I have to thank the staff for working with us to change our travel dates, due to an injury. We would recommend it to our family and friends. And please make reservations for dinner, you won't be disappointed. You must try the lillikoi margarita!

We had a great 2 night stay at the lodge. It was raining when we arrived but they give you free umbrellas. The restaurant was wonderful and we ate there for 2 breakfasts and one dinner. All was wonderful with local foods.

We stayed at Hideaway and found the room very nice for a family of 4. I recommend the room and did not find the bed too soft as others have reviewed.

We rented the plantation house, 2 BR house and it was very comfortable. Fireplace, full kitchen, porches, big bathroom. Our family of four loved it and it was very convenient to the volcano natl. park. Not many restaurants in the area so plan ahead and bring groceries.

We spent a wonderful week end at the Kilauea Lodge in Volcano Village on the island of Hawaii. As you can tell by the locale, one of the great features of the Lodge is its proximity to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The entrance is about a mile away. Staying in Volcano Village enables you to spend evening hours at the park so you can observe the volcanic activity against the night sky.

The Lodge itself is now on the National Historic Register. The main building was built in the 1930s as a YMCA camp with cathedral ceilings, a beautiful hardwood floor and an immense fireplace. The fireplace itself is worth a good look because the structure contains stones and coins from around the world.

We stayed in the Paina building. The room was nicely decorated and had a gas fireplace. (Most of the rooms have fireplaces ... there is one building where there is a common room with a fireplace). The bed was very comfortable (be aware that it has a soft mattress). There were extras ... pillows, blankets and an umbrella you could borrow that was hanging outside the room. Note there is no television or air conditioning (though at 4,000 above sea level, you won't miss the air conditioning). Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The Lodge advertises a "hot tub" but when I checked it out it was only 91 degrees and didn't look like it was very clean.

Breakfast is a full meal, not a Continental breakfast. There was a choice of two different omelets, eggs to order or pancakes (included in the room charge). For an extra $4 there were "premium" options, including eggs Benedict.

We stayed in the two-bedroom, one bathroom, spacious Tutu's Place for two nights with our daughter on a Dec. visit to Volcano National Park which quite suited our needs. The well-maintained and situated lodge seemed to be very well run and the lodge and restaurant staff was polite and friendly. The restaurant was attractive and cozy. The breakfasts were more than sufficient for us who generally eat very modestly in the AM.

I consider "average" very acceptable for a (near the) park facility, and I would recommend this lodge to my best friend and I would stay there again if I were to return to the park. This cheerful cottage was furnished with even more kitchen accessories than we required, but it was not one of the most comfortable places I have stayed in my travels. It was somewhat on the rustic side and that was fine. It took a long time for the bathroom water to become warm and the shower pressure was not strong. The running water was not potable but drinking water was furnished.

FYI - There is a large, lovely gallery at the park with unique, handsome work made by local crafts people. This is a huge plus in my book! If you want to buy gifts for friends, this would be a wonderful opportunity to support the local economy. Hope they have a big success with this.
