This is one of those old world type lodges with rustic decor and excellent service. We were lucky to score a room as we had not booked ahead , but this an ideal place to stay if you are wanting to explore the Volcanoes National park. It has the feel of being someones house and they have just added rooms to allow you to stay with them. Our room was in a small building just off the side of the main house and was very quiet and comfortable. The food in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was beautiful although serving sizes way too much for us. You can get a basic picnic lunch to take into the park which was very handy as there is nowhere in the park itself for food.I would be happy to recommend to others.

A lovely spot to stop while visiting Volcanoes NP with quaint rooms and a dining room with real character that draws you in with a big welcoming fireplace. Service was very good and the meal at the restaurant was great too with very healthy portions and plenty of choice. Breakfast is generous too and included in the price. We stayed in the Hideaway cottage with a teenage daughter and the second bedroom was more like a large cupboard but ok fo a short stay. The cottage itself is above a neighbouring garage but very comfortable, spacious and quiet. Highly recommended.

I've stayed at the Kilauea Lodge on more than one occasion. The staff has always been friendly and pleasant to deal with. The Lodge is convenient to Volcanoes National Park. The restaurant is great for dinner. The prime rib special and their blended Lilokoi margaritas are amazing. The rooms are comfortable and have more character than your typical hotel room.

My husband and I were visiting the volcano on the big island. We drove up from Kona and stayed here....cozy, upscale rustic with beamed ceilings and a fireplace. There was a common room, a hot tub and a warm comforting feeling. The room was clean and comfortable...the restaurant was a revelation. The food excellent, the service freindly and embracing and it is all about 5 minutes from the park. A wonderful breakfast is included. The dinner service was great...I had lobster and my husband had steak. There was an elk special that was all eaten up before our 7:30 reservation. There were Christmas decorated umbrellas hung from the ceiling...every year the owners do a contest for the staff...this year was decorating umbrellas for Christmas. The guests each night voted for their favorites...the winner gets $500. It was a wonderful inclusive contest done all in good fun. It was great walking around and looking at each one and voting...it made us feel good and someone gets a Christmas bonus. The staff was so into it...and so were we...a delight.

There are many good things to say about the lodge, and some not so good. It is convenient to Volcanoes Park; the rooms are clean; the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. On the other hand, our room (which had a fireplace) had a strong smell of smoke in it which was somewhat unpleasant; and the showers had about the worst water pressure I have experienced (unless they were ultra-low flow showers). All in all, this was about what I expected for the area, and it was not a bad choice (particularly based on the external views I had of other hotels as I drove down the road). The building we were in had a common room on the first floor, which was awfully loud with a large family group occupying it during the early evening, but quieted down at night. Restaurant was OK, nothing to write home about.

Sometimes these little mom and pop places are dodgey, but our stay at the Kilauea Lodge was just what we needed!

We visited the Volcano park and this was the perfect reprieve. It's literally minutes from the park, and since the weather was so chilly and rainy, the coziness of the lodge was just right. The fireplace was roaring and the food was great. We ate 3 meals there! It was all decorated for the holidays which gave it that extra little something special.

We stayed in an Aloha Room, 204/night including tax. Nice little room with robes and nice linens. Note there is not a TV in te bedroom (there is one in the "common room" which is shared by 3 other rooms) so bring an iPad if you want to watch something. We were too tired, so it didn't bug us.

I would come again, for sure, were I ever to come back to see the Volcano!
