was expecting a hotel but actually it is more like a B&B, owner was very nice and friendly, free fruit, juice, yogurt, ok for a night. The most exciting part is the lava tube under their backyard, absolutely awesome, very different experience than what you can geet in a big hotel and you should try!

The owner of this place seemed friendly enough until we went down into his lava tube with him. Before I knew what was happening, he had his hands all over me! We were pretty far into the tube and so we were very uncomfortable and just wanted to get out safe. This man is more than a little scary. I thought at first it was my imagination but realized quickly that I wasn't imagining anything. When we got out of there, my husband told me he was afraid for his life. I had to agree. Plenty of wonderful places to stay in Volcano. Don't make this one of them.

The aloha crater lodge and lava tube was a great place that my wife and I stayed on our first leg of our Hawaii journey. We chose this B&B because of its close proximity to Volcanoes National Park. It happens to be only two roads up the street. The Crater Lodge has no air conditioning but it is not needed on the big island.
The room that we stayed in was room 3. It had a nice seating area outside and a private bathroom. Nothing fancy, but comfortable. The room had a fridge and toaster oven. The room was stocked with fresh OJ, yogurt and banana bread. You also get a free tour of the lava tube which is super cool. The hot tub is outside hidden nicely in the fern forest. Very private and a great place to get away from Hilo or even Kona for an evening or two. We stayed two nights and moved on to Oahu.

Lew & June stayed here for 1 night after touring Volcano Park. Booked with breakfast which was not worth the extra $20 something! Some fruit that was sour,a couple small muffins, orange juice & the bananas were ok. We ended up going out for breakfast before our ride around Hilo area. Place was fairly clean & ok for 1 night. Other places too expensive; or far away. Wanted somewhere close so we could go back to Jaegar Museum for nighttime viewing. Was within about 5 minutes of the museum, so that was great.

Room Tip: We had back room. No problems as there are only about 4 units in whole place. Very much in the fores...

The grounds are beautiful. The bed was super comfortable. The breakfast was lovely - fresh fruits, yogurt, granola, amazing Hilo-roasted coffee, and (best of all) banana coconut muffins made by the owner, Shannon. The lava tube tour led by Danny, the other owner, was a blast! Danny took lots of pictures and made the experience really fun. The town of Volcano is a stone's throw away, with some good places for meals other than breakfast.

This is not a chain hotel, so do not think it is. This is a "lodge like" amentity, surrounded by lush forest. So, that's the 5 stars of it. The hot tub is over chlorinated. Breakfast is defined as bananas, oranges, packaged oatmeals, Ramen Noodles, and four muffins. There is no air conditioning, since it is cool in the mountains, most of the time. We stayed here for one night for the "experience".

Room Tip: If you are expecting better quality, be prepared to pay at least $200 / night here.

Surprised and disappointed. More like a B&B but not clean. Stayed overnight after volcano park for the day. There were some bugs/ roaches in the room. I was freaked out and could not sleep well. It is rainforest jungle there, so maybe these are part of the environment. They have a lava tube under the house which was good. I had tried to book Volcano House in the park and since they were full i was directed to ACL...I assumed they were also part of NPS and assummed the quality would be good
