i am tempted to keep our experience at VOLCANO VILLAGE LODGE to myself for fear of it becoming impossible to ever find
a reservation again!! my boyfriend and i spent 3 days there to
celebrate a milestone birthday and it will remain the most
memorable time of our lives....there isn't much i can add to all
the other glowing reviews, except that KAY and her staff of buddhist gardeners and her namaste yoga/assistant keep her
breathtaking retreat in topform 24/7...we felt transported to our
own personal Valhalla and will never forget her warmth and
the incredible experiences we had exploring lava flows in the
dark of night and spending time at one of the most beautiful places on this earth...mahalo nui loa to KAY for recharging our
senses and souls...ELLEN & BOB (maui)

After 14 trips to Hawaii during the last 40 years, we finally found Paradise at the Volcano Village Lodge!! I researched dozens of B&B's and lodges on the internet, wrote to them all with my questions and only ONE took the time to write me back each time (a couple did answer my first requests and then never responded from then on). My husband and I took our 4 & 7 yr. old grandsons with us. Our Lodge was way more than we expected! It was huge and so well equipped. It was in the middle of the rain forest and only
a couple of miles from all the volcanoes. Kay, the Innkeeper,
pays careful attention to every detail - from umbrellas, flashlights, CD's, DVD's, and a fabulous breakfast! Our grandkids loved the "cats" that roamed the property because they made them feel just like home (having 4 cats of their own). Kay supplies only the BEST in supplies and therefore it's a pleasure to respect her property. I am glad our grandsons are so well behaved because her decor leans more to adults and not roudy, disrespectful children. The Volcano Village Lodge
absolutely reflects what Hawaii is all about - peace, nature, silence and beauty - a place truly filled with the aloha spirit. God bless this lady for offering and doing all she does for her visitors.
Enjoy your visit!!!!

We stayed at Kay's lovely tropic-rainforest-surrounded nest for two nights, and those were the best expereience we had at Hawaii.

There are a number of real nice photos already on this site, so I will not waste anymore web resources. Just to tell you that photos cannot duplicate the beauty of her lodge. You simply need to be there to experience everything such as the exotic flora and fauna ouside your own window.

Two points I wanted to make:

1. If you are hard-core fans coming to see the wonder of living volcano, there is no other choice but to stay in the park or in the volcano village so you can experience the lava flow at late night -- and I would strongly strongly recommend Kay's place. Best breakfast (someone mentioned quiche -- "yummy", and her menu changes daily), best military binocular for viewing (everyone wanted to borrow it when we were at the lava flow site), real comforting hot tub, and other countless nice little things that she provided (Umbrela, flashlight, books/DVDs about lava/volcano..etc.)

2. We are travelers of Southeast Asian origin. We really enjoy our cultural, social and traditional commonality with her. There are common things in our blood that we share, which make us feel right at home, like living with your Aunt. So DO NOT PASS THIS IF YOU ARE FROM ASIAN PACIFIC REGION.

My husband and I recently stayed here on our honeymoon. This being our first bed and breakfast experience we did not know what to expect. Besides being close to volcano natl park, the grounds were peaceful and relaxing. There was a hot tub we could use freely along with an extremely friendly cat. Kay, the caretaker, was incredible. She made sure we had everything we needed, right down to flashlights for walking out to the lava. She baked breads and muffins for breakfast along with fresh fruit and took into consideration what we liked. Kay also had great ideas for activities besides the volcano such as the black sand beach and sea turtles. We could tell that she really takes the time to please her guests and ensure that they have a memorable time. We spent 5 nights there after being on maui at a marriott and it was a nice change to be at a smaller place with an excellent hostess. We highly recommend if you stay in volcano to check out this bed and breakfast!!

We had such a wonderful time @ V V L. Kay is the best possible host. I will simply copy exactly what I left in the guestbook and include some photos so that you can see for yourself what a magical place this is. Keep in mind that there is not a word or a picture that can present an accurate description of an experience. You will have to stay there to see what I mean.

Lodging in the rainforest; what a niche,
Shitake, bacon, and Maui onion quiche!
Nirvana, serenity, relaxation and rest,
Volcano Village Lodge is truly the best!
