“Wonderful Rainforest Oasis”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

Serenity, rainforest views, cozy, and wonderful attention to detail by the lodge hosts. Only minutes from Volcano Village and Volcano National Park, who can ask for anything more?

The room is equipped with everything you could need (fireplace, coffee, small refrigerator, wifi, etc...). While the lodge doesn't have a restaurant, each night we found the next mornings breakfast which was always delicious and easy to heat up and enjoy on our private deck overlooking the rainforest.

The lodge was a real treat. As were the chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us on our second day and the fresh baked treats in the lodges common room.

Mahalo nui loa for your kind review. Volcano Village Lodge is nestled in the native Hawaiian rain forest only two miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Many guests comment on our attention to details in the rooms and love breakfast waiting in their rooms for a leisurely morning.
We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and we welcome you back with our warmest aloha's. -Staff at Volcano Village Lodge

Although the lodge is a more a honey moon lodge than a place to be with small kids, our kids (6) and (9) loved it,
Intuitively they recognized the natural beauty of the lodge, perfectly settled in the rainforest and very close to the volcano national park. And behaved according to such a beautiful and peaceful place.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast awesome.
Volcano national park is only 5 minuets away and its worth a stay of at least 2 or 3 days or even more. We are glad that we decided to stay over in Volcano and not only to plan a day trip from the Kona coast.
When we left our son forgot his little stuffed doggie, which was send immediately back to us, with a packet of Hawaiian chocolate.
Unfortunately we are back in Germany now, far away from Volcano and Big Island.
If you go to Big Island, take the chance and visit Volcano and stay in the Volcano Village Lodge.
With kids or without kids.
Mahalo , Mahalo nui loa.

Mahalo for taking the time to write a review of our property. We are happy that your ohana had a wonderful stay with us. While a lot of honeymooners do stay at Volcano Village Lodge, we do have many families as well stay with us. We're located on a very private property that is completely safe for small kids. Our staff provides world class hospitality and will go above and beyond for our guests.
Mahalo nui loa and we hope you can make it back. -Staff at Volcano Village Lodge

We stayed here because we read all the reviews and thought it would be a grand place to stay when visiting the volcano. We loved the place even more than we expected.
The lodge is quaint and quiet stuck in the rainforest only minutes from the national park. We had a romantic stay in one of the places that had great views of the rainforest.
We only had issues with wishing we had more fruit in the room the first day. The lady took amazing care of us and we had more fruit the next day.

Mahalo for sharing your experience.

At Volcano Village Lodge, we strive to provide a 5 star experience to each and every one of our guests. We encourage guests to bring their needs to our attention so that we can make their stay as perfect as possible. If a guest desires more of an item (food, towels, soap, etc), we are happy to do what we can to make that happen.

We appreciate you for giving us a chance to make things better by letting us know you preferred more fruit for breakfast. :)

My wife and I have been coming to the Volcano every 3 years or so for almost 30 years. We used to stay down in Hilo and drive up the 30 miles Volcanos National Park and the surrounding area every day. When your visit includes night time volcano watching this can make for some long days so this year we decided to stay in or around Volcano Village. We found the Volcano Village Lodge on Trip Advisor and really enjoyed our stay. The cabins are very comfortable but in a rustic lodge setting in the rainforest, really a unique place to say. We did lots of hiking each day in the National Park and then usually brought some sort of take out dinner back to our cabin and sat out on our covered porch in candlelight, enjoyed our supper, a glass of wine, and the rainforest. Then, if we wanted to go back to the Jagger Observatory in the Park and watch the nighttime glow of the lava in the vent that has opened up in the floor of the Halemaumau Crater it was super easy to do.

Aloha and thank you for writing a review of Volcano Village Lodge!

Many first time visitors to the Big Island believe that the national park is a "day trip" from the Kona and Hilo areas, but we strongly encourage visitors to the area to stay at least one night (2 or more is ideal!) nearby. There is so much exploring to do inside the Volcanoes National Park that you will want as much time as possible to see everything. Our property is located just minutes from the park entrance so that you can access it as often as you want! We are happy to see that your review suggests the same idea.

Mahalo nui loa. We look forward to seeing you again!

Volcano Village is a small community south of Hilo. The small population of Volcano exists because Teddy designated a national park here because of the volcano.
We stayed here and totally loved our entire experience. The guys who run this place are concerned about details. Thanks guys.

We started our 12 day vacation on the Big Island in the Volcano Village Lodge. We knew that the 2 nights we will spend here will be very different from the other two resorts, where we were going to be for the rest of our vacation (Four Seasons, Hualalai and Mauna Kea Beach resort.) Those two came with guaranteed luxury but more than triple the price.
We chose to stay in this rainforest retreat hoping it would provide a totally unique experience, even if we had to sacrifice some comfort. Well, it turned out to be above and beyond what we expected. It was a truly magical and unique experience for us, the two seasoned world travelers. We arrived after 10 PM- long journey from the east coast and couple of hrs in the car from the Kona airport, uncertain what we would find.
Everything was ready for us as agreed in the emails with Kelsea. The Mauna Kea room that we reserved many months ago was waiting for us. It was such a beautiful warm cabin with a little gas fireplace and a beautiful carved four poster bed, robes, and modern bathroom with a great shower. Every comfort we could possibly need! With the 5hrs time difference from the east coast, it was so great to wake up very early, (much earlier that any resort would serve breakfast) and look at the basket of breakfast goodies and yoghurt and the fruit plate in the fridge, coffee brewed by my husband, listening to the birds singing. We sat on our private balcony in cozy robes, admiring this very different part of the world and waiting for our day to start. We visited the National park, spent a whole day sightseeing and admiring the nature. After a dinner in a restaurant with a great view of the glowing crater we returned to our cabin for another restful and peaceful night. As we were leaving the next day, we agreed that this was a truly memorable experience, something that will not blend in time with all the other "fancy" resorts we stayed in over the years. Mahalo, Kelsea.

Room Tip: We loved the Mauna Kea room.

Mahalo for taking the time to write such a kind review of our property. Your lovely description of our lodge and the Mauna Kea room will no doubt be helpful for our future guests.

Often, visitors to the Volcano Village area wonder why there are not resorts and hotels in the area.. but the charm of this area is getting to experience the side of Hawaii that many miss during their travels. The undeveloped side of Hawaii. The Hawaiian rainforest located in Volcano Village is breathtaking and peaceful. It's healing qualities leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after a long day of hiking. This tranquility and feeling of being one with nature is what draws many artists to come to the area to gain inspiration.

You were a delight to have stay with us and we welcome you back any time!
