“Secluded & romantic yet minutes from Volcano Park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

We loved the feeling of living in a tropical lush rainforest yet being only several miles down the road from the entrance to Hawaii Volcano National Park. There is no doubt in my mind that staying here enhanced our enjoyment and experience visiting the park.

For six nights, we stayed in the Haleakala and found it spacious with big windows of the rainforest and a porch which we enjoyed each morning, afternoon and evening. We loved the sounds when it rained in the middle of the night, the evening glow of the gas heater/fireplace, and opening the shades in the morning to take in the view. You get a very secluded feeling here, rarely seeing or hearing other guests.

Kelsea and Megan were just great. My husband has dietary restrictions and emails between Kelsea and I prior to our arrival sorted out the possibilities - Kelsea was so accommodating. With six breakfasts we never got bored. We really liked being able to wake up when we wanted and have breakfast when we chose in our room, unlike in B&B where there is a common area where all the guests have breakfast at a specified time.

The location is very convenient to the park - it was easy to come back to our room for a late afternoon rest and then return in the evening for sunset, star gazing and visiting the Jaggar Museum area to see the lava lake aglow.

Aloha! Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We loved having you stay with us!

Our location inside the tropical Hawaiian rainforest gives our guests a unique perspective of Hawaii and the Big Island. Our tall Hapu'u tree ferns grow just outside of the windows of each of our guest rooms. The Haleakala room is unique with its large lava rock feature just off of the back lanai, which has been said to bring healing qualities to those nearby.

We appreciate your kind works and welcome you back anytime.

This was some lucky find. Thank you Trip Advisor prior contributors! What a unique experience…..serene huts tucked in the rainforest. Minutes from the park. It's quiet and you are guaranteed to leave feeling calm and happy. Enjoy, folks. This is a gem.

Kelsey was fantastic. Incredibly helpful, both in connection with booking the Lodge and during our stay. Rooms are very nice. Breakfast was excellent, particularly considering the Lodge is not permitted to use a stove to cook. Would recommend to anyone who wants to stay near Volcano National Park.

Room Tip: Stay in the largest lodge if you can afford it and it's available.

We stayed here in the Kailua (sp?) room the night before visiting the volcano. Our room was a bit small, heated by an in-room heater that really heats up, but perhaps not safe to keep on all night long? There is NO privacy in the bathroom (toilet)-- you might as well be going to the bathroom in the middle of the room! The major issue however was the breakfast-- the fruit a bit soggy, yoplait yogurt, and some food you might scrap together from a vending machine plus a quiche that made my significant other never want to eat quiche again! I didn't even try. Given the price, and that so many places have such delicious breakfasts, this was disappointing!
The room itself and the lodge is nicely placed in the rainforest.

We are disappointed on this Thanksgiving week to receive a review stating that we didn't perform up to your standards. It is our goal here at Volcano Village Lodge to provide the best unique lodging experience in the rainforest while following the rules and regulations set forth by the state and county.

We continue to work on improving our breakfast as the county doesn't allow for us to provide the traditional 'hot' breakfast so many people expect with a B&B. It is always a conundrum to work within the boundaries of the laws while providing an amazing, memorable experience. We appreciate our guests providing us with their dietary preferences ahead of time. Dietary preferences could be vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and more. Providing our staff with these preferences ahead of time ensures that we provide a breakfast meal that you will enjoy.

On Tuesday of this week our health and wellness expert, Tara Crawford, will be showcasing vegan and vegetarian Thanksgiving options for those who don't want the traditional meat for the holiday. We have partnered with Tara as she has focused on helping Volcano Village Lodge provide the best breakfast items under the rules and regulations of the county. You can catch Tara tomorrow on KHON at 6:15am.

We are disappointed that you had issues with our construction of our lodge. Volcano Village Lodge often receives top marks for incorporating architecture and the rainforest environment. Living in Hawaii we have a joke that has more truth in reality than we like to admit: Hawaii is the only state where you can hang two pictures with one nail. The walls are so thin that when you hammer a nail in the family room you can also hang another picture in the bedroom. Funny, but true!

We encourage our wonderful guests to come to us with any and all concerns while on property. It is our goal to provide our guests with the most memorable, positive experience while on vacation. We are so honored to have you join us and spend your valuable vacation and time with us that we are committed to giving you the best experience possible.

Considering that this is the start of Thanksgiving week, we want to take this moment to thank each and every guest who allowed us to serve you this year. We appreciate your choosing us for your escape from the quotidian. Thanksgiving provides us the opportunity to show our gratitude for making us well known around the world as "The Place to Stay" in the Volcano area.

If you are reading this review, please take time to peruse what other guests say about their time at Volcano Village Lodge over the last year.

Again, thank you for sharing your comments with us. We will continue to strive for continual improvement for future guests.

I had read so much online about this place that we decided to book it for our visit to the National Park. Not sure how to explain how spectacular it was for our visit. My husband and I had the most wonderful time relaxing the night away in the rainforest.
We stayed in the Mauna Kea and it was all that we needed and more. The ladies, Kelsea and Meghan deserve kudos for creating a welcoming environment. These ladies haven't forgotten a thing when it comes to details. The towels and robes were like being wraped up as a holiday present. Ahhh, comfortable to the max.
We did get to see the famous Gino, but he was sitting quietly on his throne in the main lodge. We love you Gino.

Room Tip: We loved the room we picked. It had everything we needed.

Mahalo nui loa for taking time to write a review of our property. Volcano Village Lodge is a wonderful, romantic, and peaceful place to stay while visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Located and nestled in the beautiful, native Hawaiian rainforest, Volcano Village Lodge is only minutes from the national park.

First, the good: Maybe the prettiest place we've ever stayed. Warm, beautiful wood room perched a dozen feet up in a tropical rainforest. Brilliant greens out spacious windows. Quiet.

Second, the less-than-good: Although Tripadvisor categorizes the Lodge as a B & B/Inn, the Lodge might better be categorized as a hotel. The Lodge doesn't provide the typical B & B experience: a host cooking a communal meal for the assembled guests. Instead, the innkeeper provides a basket of snacks and stocks a refrigerator with breakfast for guests to heat with a microwave or toaster oven. Our first meal was frozen, which wasn't a major problem for the French toast and sausages, but was for the tropical fruit and dairy products.

Mahalo nui loa for writing a review of our property.

Our unique lodging facility offers a different approach to the traditional bed & breakfast setting. The staff at Volcano Village Lodge understands the importance of our guests being able to set their own schedule so that they may soak in as much of the area as possible. We have creatively devised a breakfast plan that allows our guests to eat in the privacy of their own guest room, at a time of their choosing.

We apologize that the refrigerator in your room was set too cold. We encourage our guests to bring any issues to our attention during their stay with us. The staff at Volcano Village Lodge pride themselves on being excellent problem-solvers. We would have been happy to replace the frozen fruit plate and dairy items, if we had only known.

We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again in the future.

After spending a few nights at the Four Seasons on the Big Island I was concerned how I would like a rustic rainforest lodge. Well, we loved every moment of our two night stay at Volcano Village Lodge.
We loved the huge windows and all the feel of nature that was right in front of us. The best part was that the place had great service and very nice rooms.

Mahalo nu loa for taking time to write a review of our property. We really appreciate your kind words. At Volcano Village Lodge we strive for 5 and are so happy when people compare us to the larger resorts. With that said, unlike the larger resorts, Volcano Village Lodge has the feel of a resort (luxury, great service, etc) but without all the people. All of our five suites are nestled into the rainforest for a private and romantic lodging experience.

Thank you once again and we hope to see you on your next trip to the Big Island. -Our Warmest Aloha's VVL Staff
