“A must do!!!!”

I can't say enough about this place. The attention to detail was incredible. Kay certainly has escaped to paradise and she is sharing a slice of heaven with us. She has created a sanctuary for rest and relaxation. From the goodies left in the room (homemade quiche, fresh fruit, water, juice, yogurts) to the outdoor jacuzzi (you must take at least one) the lodge makes all things seem OK. The entire time we were there, it poured rain, but it didn't matter. We highly recommend Volcano Village Lodge and can't wait to go back.

Volcano Village Lodge is a very private, perfectly located, peaceful place to stay. I can't say enough positive things about this place. I was not disappointed in any detail of our stay and that was not true about the other three places we stayed on the big island. The price was great, the location was great, the amenities were great. I felt very at home here. The breakfast provided was also very good and filled us up. We do like a lot for breakfast too!

I recommend Kiluea Lodge for a great fine dining experience. Dress is somewhat casual and dinner somewhat expensive. I have never had better prepared ahi tuna. We had a great dessert made on the island and a great glass of wine. I recommend making reservations-even that day.

Kiawe Kitchen was also wonderful. We only ate there for lunch and had fresh, warm baguette sandwiches with the fish of the day and the brick oven pizza. Both very good. I did prefer the sandwiches for the price and taste though.

The Thai restaurant was also great. Good value good food. Maybe a restaurant to get take out and eat at the room.

We stayed in the Kiluea room at Volcano Village as we were on our honeymoon. It was the perfect amount of space for two people and just cozy and very private. The bed looks out on a thickly forested rainforest though there are blinds that can shield every window.

I also highly recommend the Lonely Plant Hawaii travel guide. We ate only at restaurants listed in the guide and had consistenly amazing dining experiences, even on a budget.

You will be very happy if you stay here! Please contact us if you have any questions!

Volcano Village Lodge deserves it’s reputation as the best place to stay in the Volcanoes National Park area (the park entrance is a five minute drive away). My partner and I stayed in the Mauna Loa suite (the largest and most expensive of the five suites at $245/night) for three nights and were enchanted with the rainforest setting, beautiful construction of the building, and thoughtful amenities.

Microwave with built in toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, wide screen LCD monitor and DVD player were all provided along with colorful square-shaped dinnerware, contemporary-design flatware, and large balloon wine glasses. The super king-sized bed (perhaps a California king) was extremely comfortable with luxury linens. Mauna Loa happens to have a second bedroom with a double bed, and we used this room as our “closet,” helping to keep the main room uncluttered. An upstairs open loft accessed by a ladder serves as a “meditation loft,” something which we didn't have the opportunity to use.

Each day the room was stocked with the makings of a full breakfast including fresh ground coffee (presumably Kona), cold cereal, instant oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, bread/pastry, and juice. A “hot” dish (breakfast burrito, quiche, etc.) was placed in the refrigerator for microwaving in the morning.

The “common” room at the lodge was stocked with books, CDs and DVDs. A hot tub is available for all guests. Wireless internet service is available in all the suites; but, I found the signal strength in Mauna Loa unpredictably and rapidly varied from nothing to full strength. Signal strength in the common room is consistently strong, and a desktop PC and printer are available for guests to use as well.

The lodge’s only disadvantage is that it is a bit remote from the “center” of Volcano Village, itself. At night the area is in total darkness (very few if any street lights) making a walk to dinner impossible. On the plus side, however, the stars and the Milky Way are as prominent as you will ever see!

Overall, we will definitely return to the Volcano Village Lodge. It’s a destination in it’s own right, and having Volcano National Park close by is an added benefit.

Dining tips:
1) Kilauea Lodge in the “center” of Volcano Village is both an inn and restaurant. The restaurant is excellent and extremely popular requiring reservations every evening. The wine list is spectacular, and the menu is best described as German/Austrian with a touch of Italian. Anticipate $35-40/person with a glass of wine ande gratuity, but without dessert.
2) Kiawe Kitchen is an Italian-style restaurant a very short distance from the Kilauea Lodge. Smaller and more casual in style with an open kitchen, you can get pastas, gourmet thin-crust pizzas, and a small selection of main courses. The wine list is decent. A little less expensive than Kilauea Lodge.

Loved every minute of our stay here!! Fabulous accomodations, great food, amazing hospitality, and the heavenly bed and linens....what more can I say?? Two nights was not nearly enough. Extremely serene and relaxing. We will definitely go back again - though not nearly soon enough!!!!

We loved our stay at the VVL. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. Kay, our wonderful hostess, made us feel at home right away after showing us to our beautiful, high-end but eco-friendly lodge. Large windows gave the lodge an open airy feeling yet the surrounding wooded property provided ample privacy. Breakfast was provided beforehand which allowed flexibility if you don't mind that it isn't the traditional hot cooked fare. The lodge is immaculate we will certainly stay here again the next time we are vacationing on the Big Island.

Thank-you Kay,
TK&SI

We just got back from staying in the Haleakala cabin at Volcano Village. The cabin and hospitality were perfect! If you want R&R and to have the experience of being right next door to an active volcano, then go to Volcano Village Lodge. Kay certainly has poured her time, effort and passion into this upscale lodge. The fun "jungle" setting is an exciting contrast to the sunny side of the island. We recommend spending time in Volcano and get your energy out and then staying on the Kohala coast on the beach!

Hard to say anything more than has already been said here. Basically, staying here is like having your own personal 5 star beautiful cabin/villa right in the middel of the rain forest. Kay the owner treats you first class the whole way. If you are the big resort type person (think Four Seasons) this probably isn't for you. But if you enjoy privacy without any sacrifices, this is your place. And so very close to Volcano National Park. Would stay here again and again and again. Perfection.
