“Amazing stay!”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We had a wonderful 2-night stay as part of our honeymoon in the Hula Moon cottage. The room was tastefully decorated and very clean. Breakfast in the morning was brought by the smiling and friendly owner, John, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious tropical fruit and fresh pastries. John was incredibly helpful in giving us tips for things to see in Volcano National Park, and places to eat in the area. We will definitely stay here again!

We stayed here on our visit to the volcano, and it would be a good destination on its own when visiting the Hilo side of the island with its exquisite waterfalls and botanical garden. We stayed in the Aloha Moon cottage and it was perfect - charming and romantic with rattan furniture, a very comfortable king bed and private wrap-around deck. Truly enjoyed the serene atmosphere and tropical gardens, and sitting on the deck, enjoying delicious kona coffee, fresh papaya and pineapple and delicious egg sandwiches on croissants for breakfast with the sounds of the birds in the lush foliage was simply heaven. A bit hard to find, so call and ask for directions.

We stayed in Lotus Garden Cottages B&B in Volcano, Hawaii.
Gracious host, great breakfast and beautiful craftsman woodwork in a great location near Volcano National Park.
Appreciated the cable tv and rainforest outside of the room.
Thank you Jon, we will be back!

When I planned my honeymoon, I wanted to experience at most I could of Hawaii in two weeks time. For that, I planned to visited Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island. Staying on the Lotus Garden Cottages on Hawaii certainly provided an experience completely different than the other two islands. The temperature in Volcano is very cold for a tropical island. We stayed on the Hula Moon Cotages and on the nights, we turned on the fireplace for a romantic and comfortable atmosphere. The cottage was super clean and the japanese themed decorations where amazing. Specially amazing were the breakfasts that John Kim prepared for us!! Beautiful with fruits, pastries and juice. The location is VERY country side, so don't expect to be near an urban area unless you drive 40 minutes to Hilo. However, it is an excellent spot to visit the Volcanoes Park. Also, if you want to visit the Mauna Kea summit, it's about a 2 hours drive, going through Hilo, which is not too bad if you plan your trip well.

The bonus of our stay was receiving a package from John Kim on the mail. We had forgotten a picture we had taken on Oahu on the cottage and he was very kind in mailing it back to us, even before us asking for it. Sincerely, thank you John for providing us with our best stay in Hawaii!

It's a very cosy place, has a great feeling and a very clean and nice room. I loved the breakfast it was always different, on time and very fresh.
The place has this great spirit, surrounded by pure nature. The room had this great wooden smell which made the place even better. The owner is a very nice person. Very organized and clean.
We( me and my husband) were there on February, but we defiantly would love to come back!

We spent 2 nights at the Aloha Moon Cottage. The cottage is well furnished and spacious, with a wrap-around deck where we enjoyed the two excellent breakfasts that John brought us. There's a foot massager in the room, for those coming back with weary feet, and some interesting books in the kitchen (I recommend the book titled Volcano by Hongo, although I only read a few snippets).
Lotus Gardens is very close to the center of Volcano (definitely eat at Thai Thai, and if you're brave, ask for your food to be "Thai Hot", it was delicious!). It's also just a 10 minute drive to VNP, so we were even able to drive to Jagger Museum at midnight to gaze at the red glow of the crater.
My last morning at the cottage John lent me a handheld vacuum cleaner so I could get the alternating spots of white and black sand out of our rental 4WD.

We stayed in the Aloha Moon Cottage and everything was perfect. There is not a single improvement I could suggest. We will stay here when we return to the Big Island in the upcoming years. John (the host) was fantastic and accommodating; breakfast included the freshest fruit we had during our trip to Hawaii.
